S.S. North Carolina Shipwreck Gold Coins

This is a cool article that I came across yesterday. Can’t wait to see what ultimately surfaces. Sounds like the coins might not have the typical saltwater damage. Interesting that the article speculated that many coins will likely have come from Dahlonega. Perhaps they know more than they let on about what’s been recovered to date? If that’s true, there could be a nice run of 1838-1840 Dahlonega gold that will come to market. I’d be interested in learning more about what was recovered in the late 1990’s salvage.
