A few are environmentally damaged (corrosion) and discoloration. The rest just look banged-up by general circulation. When a coin is "damaged" after a while you'll know it.

They can be "damaged" by contact with something or chemicals. Both these happen in degrees. Very often a coin with a small scratch is not considered damaged.

  • I have this "Lincoln werewolf" if you like shaped and toning, just don't stare at it for to long because you will see A LOT of figure shapes 👍. (I'm just kidding just in case this coin is not funny or amusing)
    🤣

But if you want to see/get some more ,I do have a good amount of that kind of coloring toned coins, and other different colors, an example is my profile pic.

  • @92Rollin if you get a chance to get a Philadelphia minted doubled die 2004 nickel the one with the boat,it will make you think how,why and who gets to make or chose the designs that are used.from 10 double die 2004 nickels we found 2 that had weird scary/creepy but yet amazing numerous images in it,there is a video of the usb camera filming all those "figure outlines" the group of people that were watching we were all looking at the same images in the same spot from different angle and different lightnings,im telling you this because people see things in coins, different shapes when they rotate a coin same as what we can see in a moving cloud.but this 2004 Nickel is something else, even tho the same marks are in 2 coins people don't take them as mint errors, because they are not labeled when they made the master mint design(also not many people pay attention or mention this kind of observation because that will be a welcoming for others to judge and call you crazy for starters) .you can find this "shape" in most 2004 nickel, check it out if you want 🤔

It's really hard to see anything with the glare in your picture. Is your nickel listed in Wexler's Doubleddie.com or Varietyvista.com?

  • @Oldhoopster no there's is nothing listed on those 2 places and I didn't find anything on DDO from 2004 boat, there's are only some about the peace offering shaking hands on the reverse.

If you don’t see it listed then there two ways it can go.

    It’s not an error, or...

Submit to Wexler to get it attributed. Once it’s attributed and on the books (CPG) then you can submit to this forum’s host for a variety attribution label.

Do yo see anything on the top right? If you do What do you think it is? If you don't see anything that will be my answer for submission...
