The Story Behind the Card - Steve Blass

I came across this video on Youtube and thought it was a cool idea. I was listening to the Pirates game with Steve Blass announcing and wanted to see if there were any videos of him pitching in 1973 when he lost his control. I didn't find any but this had a cool walk through his career with each of his baseball cards.

Today is Steve Blass day in Pittsburgh.

Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.

I remember the 1971 N.L. Playoffs as I was a Giants fan. It was the last year of the great players for SF as Mays,McCovey,Perry,Marichal,Bonds,Henderson,Speier,Fuentes and Dietz would all be gone within a couple years. San Francisco pummeled Blass in his two appearances as they won game one (with McCovey and Fuentes homering) and knocked him out in game 4 after only 2 innings with 2 more homers (Speier and McCovey). But two hitters from Pittsburgh names Robertson and Al Oliver (a future Giant!) homered the Pirates to the World Series. BAH. I also remember a very young Bruce Kison shutting down the Giants and going to throw over 20 consecutive scoreless innings of postseason pitching!

I was a bit too young to recall that season but I have seen the videos of the World Series. I checked Youtube and I don't see any videos of the NLCS games. Too bad.
