(1870s) New York Circus token Rulau-382 Ch Unc $450

New York--New York. Shell Card. Undated L.B. Lent's New-York Circus. Bowers-NY-6600, Rulau-382. Silvered Brass. 38.5 mm. Mint State. ex. Bowers $450
For sale is this awesome shell card (circa 1870s) and the nicest one I've handled. On a large, thick "planchet" of silvered brass, this one has a lovely pictorial of a woman riding on a horse standing up. Circus advertising is always popular, and this 19th Century piece is a throwback to a time when entertainment was much simpler. The circus coming to town was cause for great excitement and even merited the coining of these attractive tokens, most of which are long gone.
This one is seemingly in unimprovable condition from the storied collection of Q. David Bowers.
Thanks for looking!
