Hey guys,

Long-time PSA collector here, but I haven't done any subs for almost three years to the day. Life has just been too busy with a new job, a move, a new house, and a new marriage (to a gal who's a PSA 10 to me) in the last couple years.

I'm finally to the point where I've moved all my cards and am somewhat settled at the new place. Thankfully I have some time to go through cards I'd prepped for grading some years back, plus some more recent acquisitions I'd like to send in to PSA. I've noticed that the PSA Monthly Specials have changed to Quarterly Specials this year, and the new best price for grading appears to be $8.00 a card.

I know it's a booming economy with lots of disposable income floating around, and it sounds like business is good for PSA. I can certainly understand why the best price would be raised. They are a publicly traded company and are obligated to maximize their profits, setting price to what the demand will allow.

I've got some really nice star cards to send in, but as a set collector, I have to balk at at the eight bucks a pop to send in the hundreds of high grade commons I've accumulated from the '50's through the '70's. It makes sense for several of them, but definitely not the majority. I guess I'm a little spoiled, what with the Monthly Specials of $5.00 to $6.00 a card that I can recall.

A few questions for the group:

Is there an archive of PSA Monthly/Quarterly Specials anywhere? I couldn't find such a thread via the search function for this forum.

Can the group confirm that $8.00 a card is the new normal for best price on Quarterly Specials? I am aware that this is also the normal "Bulk Submission" rate.

Is everyone else sending in fewer commons, in light of the grading costs? This fees really make me hesitate on sending in '70's commons, PSA 9-worthy or not.

    I’ve just recently got back into grading myself. $8 is the cheapest I’ve seen. If they do a quarterly special, they’ll knock down the minimum requirement down to from 100 to 25. If you have a huge order, you may try and contact someone in customer service and they may cut you a discount.

    For the $8 special the cards have to be 1959 and older.

    How much would it cost for a TimCarroll 24x48" collage of SoxAddict's message board picture. Am still infatuated.

    8.00 bucks is cheapest I've seen in a couple years, also requiring bulk.

    Dang....one of the old schoolers from back in the day! I've heard that you "might" be able to get a buck off a card if you are sending in several thousand but that has not been confirmed. I asked a customer service rep if there was a discount on 1k a few months back and was told no. Those $5.50-$6 a card specials are history. With a 4-5 month backlog on bulk subs, they really don't have to do specials anymore, unfortunately. I've sent some 90's junk wax stars in with good luck on my 10 percentage and I'm going to sub some really nice 74 Topps baseball commons in my next bulk. Couple lucky hits and it would be worth it but it's possible I'm throwing some money away. Those quarterly specials don't really change much anymore for the cards. They usually have some pre 59 special and maybe a non-sport. Kinda gone from "special" to "not so special", lol. Good luck and welcome back!

    Thanks for the responses guys. Good info. Prometheus, thanks for the welcome back. I've lurked here some and stayed active in the hobby as best as I can. Yup. Old school collector here.

    I appreciate the confirmation that 8 bucks is the best I'll see for grading fees. I'll watch and see what specials are posted for 4Q 2019 and weigh my options. Sure would love to get my commons holdered, but they're well protected as is.

    I don’t know about Tim Carroll, but you can get an 11 x 14 canvas from Walgreens for $39.95. 😂

    Back in the days of Bonds, I was busting 100 set 1986 Topps Traded cases and getting a $4.50 per card rate. Turnaround back then would be a week or two. I don’t remember any order taking over a month back then. Those days are long gone.
