Heritage Long Beach Auction: Strong Prices for Early Copper

The first round of the sale of Donald Stoebner's amazing collection. Sale prices for Draped Bust Large Cents seem very strong (where my attention has been focused). I placed 17 advance bids; a single one came through in the end. I'm not surprised at the fierce bidding for some of the rarer varieties. I am surprised at the prices paid for the more common ones...

Curious (as I have some early copper), are you noticing strong prices ALL AROUND, or only for the more "rare" pieces?
Large cents only or half cents as well?
Or, only referring to the auction itself, which is a very small microcosm of what is out there, for sale, in early copper?
(since you note Heritage's auction........I am asking your viewpoint beyond that, if you have anything to add beyond the auction)
Thanks
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I am referring to Draped Bust Large Cents within this particular auction. The prices - at least at first blush - seem to be higher - with more bidding action - than I have noticed recently.

I got spanked pretty good on a middle date cent on Heritage last month. Common variety, slightly better date, old ANACS holder that appeared slightly under graded. Thought it would fly under the radar being in the ‘wrong’ plastic but still submitted a strong bid, and was blown out of the water.
I didn’t even bother bidding in this auction as the early online bids were looking strong for a number of the dates I follow.
So, price guides continue to be lower than reality for these?

Could be. I frankly haven’t looked at a price guide for DBLCs in a long time.
