The power of alcohol and late night ebay

I have trouble sleeping at night so I usually have a glass or five of wine to relax. Although I'm not hitting BIN cos everything looks so reasonable, and I know I would regret it in the morning. I am however adding a lot to my snipe. I'm sure I'll delete most in the morning and cringe. How does the sauce affect you and eBay? Would love to hear some crazy stories.

MattyC had an amazing thread where he would indulge and make ebay purchases. Easily one of my top 3 favorite threads on this forum. Sadly, he used a photo hosting site that no longer supports the pics. There were some amazing cards in that thread.

    Alcohol is a powerful drug.

Side note, I sometimes have trouble sleeping and found that (sadly), no alcohol is the way to go to a better night's sleep.

  • I wish I could blame some of my purchases on alcohol.

I rarely make a purchase with no alcohol involved. Can't have alcohol buyers remorse if you always stay buzzed! I've found that it's not so much the purchases, but the unopened that I have purchased that seem to fall victim. Hey...let's open this $300 box of cards that is sure to yield $50 worth of cards!

I wish I could say I was drunk when I purchased the last few Mattingly autos I have on the way. I think I need to stop for a few weeks (or months)........

My only purchase where I didn't remember doing it when I woke up was in my mid 20's right after I started making some cash. I bought two BGS 9.5 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr's with weak subs for $300 apiece. Didn't realize the importance at the time. Sold them many years later at a loss of more than half.

I like to enjoy my drinks so many purchases are made with a buzz. I have probably done more damage to others bidding intoxicated than myself because my ego gets in the way and I will jack a card.

I busted a 1985 Topps WWF rack box last year loaded and that was too much fun! Just glad I had the where with all to be gentle when inserting the cards into the card savers. Nailed a yellow Hogan 10, 2 Piper's and many others.

Like others have said I can't keep something sealed when I get the itch and made a major error opening a 1982 Wrestling All Stars Series A pack I had planned to keep sealed because of one corner. I flushed $600 down the drain because every single card had a smashed corner behind the top card. Thankfully was able to sell the Hogan and recoup some of the purchase price. Sh++ happens.

Sometimes I'm so bombed that I can't even make it back to the computer to place my bid.

Whoa. You got a cannonball out of it. Dang well worth it then.

I’m gunna drink today and get on eBay real late and find me one of them large boat whale harpoon machines. Or one of those dragon guns from Game of Thrones. Then go out to Lake Pleasant up the freeway a bit and kill me something big.

  • I want to see the cannonball lol

I’ll be honest, most of my unopened collection was purchased under the influence. When I’m sober, I’m torn between unopened and my player collections. When I’ve had a bunch, I gravitate to unopened for whatever reason and always have....and now I’m glad I did. Who said beer isn’t good for you?
