Trilogy Signature Materials
This was the card that got me hooked into collecting cards.
Don Mattingly Trilogy Signature Materials. It has an on card auto, with a small piece of game used bat and jersey.
Years ago, I went into a card store and the store owner had a display case with cards that customers pulled in his store. I saw the Don Mattingly and immediately wanted to buy it.. When I asked the store owner how much he wanted for it, he explained to me that it wasn't his, but a customers card. I asked him if he knew how much the owner of the card wanted for it, or could he put me in contact with him. The store owner told me he could, but for a fee. Needless to say, I turned his offer down.
A month or so later, ended up getting one on eBay. I loved the style of the card so much, ended up going for the set. I don't think a day went by during that time that I wasn't on that mission. It was a rough experience at times (competing with player collectors and other people trying to complete the set too). It took me a little over a year, but I cant begin to describe how satisfying it felt when it was done. I went back to that card shop when the set was completed. That Mattingly was still in the display case, but the auto had become dull looking.
Starting this thread to over time post/share cards from this loved set.

While I like the Larkin, it would've been nicer if he'd signed it in the correct spot It really looks out of place when shown with the others.
Hey!! An Aubrey Huff sighting! Cool cards!
Longoria Collector. Love the Longo! 600+ PSA Graded 4,700+ unique Longoria cards scanned on TCDB 800+ different Longo autograph cards Jeff
Can you add a little info for those of us not familiar with this set? How many different cards on the checklist? How was it distributed, as a random pack insert or premium box or case hit, etc.? How many of each card produced (as you indicate you did not buy the first Mattingly but was able to get one somewhere else)? As I stated in a post on another one of your threads, autos and relics have never been a thing I've had much interest in previously, but the segment is slowly growing on me, as you do have some quality items, and a large quantity of it, too. Very nice!
The guy wanted to charge you a fee?! Lame. That would've got on my nerves & I would've turned him down too. Even if he only wanted 2 bucks.
Glad you completed your set.
I'm all about that Jordan stuff. Cards, stickers, posters & whatever else is cool. The rarer the better. And always in a PSA 10 if I can help it.
Any other big Jordan nuts out there let me know.
I'm not an auto collector but those cards are pretty cool. I can see how you got hooked. Congrats.
I totally agree. He signed all of his that way. Its too bad because he has a very nice signature.
Thanks Jlvette50! I never even heard of Aubrey Huff until putting the set together.
Thanks countdouglas! I gotta know what your first interests will be if you start collecting cards! Because I don't want to give you the wrong info, or not enough, Ill just give you this link...

Since I was new to collecting at the time, I didn't even know about checklists. All I knew I wanted to get every one of them I could find. I just remember doing a google search for these cards and came across this guy who had already put the set together. At the time, his collection of the cards was my only guide.

Thanks Air23GOAT!
Yeah, that wasn't cool at all. He was one of the first negative people I encountered in this hobby as well. Needless to say, I would still go in his shop to see if there was anything cool that caught my eye. If I saw something I liked, I didn't buy it from him, I went home and bought it online.
Thanks JBrules!

Whole lotta Reds love in that set. I think I counted 6 out of the 47?
Very cool cards. I don't have that Mattingly yet, but I may have to find one since I am on a Mattingly auto spree at the moment.

Larkincollector! I didn't even realize that. The set is heavy on Reds.
Thanks krisd3279! I would love to see what you have so far!
I recently purchased a Ryne Sandberg card in this collection but cannot find anywhere what possible value is? Any guidance or thoughts? It is 75 of 75.
How much did you pay?
$100. I am a Cubs fan and grew up watching Ryne Sandberg so that did not seem like a bad price for the collection since I have never seen it. Really just curious on ballpark value since I can't even find the card anywhere with exception to this thread. Thoughts?
Hi there,
My apologies for the delay in response. I havent been on here since the new year. Not sure of the going price now, but I think I paid about $65 for mine, but that was many, many years ago when putting the set together.
I should have commented last time I looked at this thread - but I really love this set. Congrats on finding something so cool and collecting it.
I love threads like these... I can definitely appreciate long-haul set building like this. Great looking cards! Are they translucent? It threw me off with the reverse side photos being backwards LOL
Thanks guys! Yep, they are translucent! It really helps add character to the cards.
