These may not be "THE BEST 10" (if money means clutch), but without reading anyone else's list, they're the ones that came to mind first without even having to think more than a few seconds.

    George Brett
    Reggie Jackson
    David Ortiz
    Joe Montana
    Brett Favre
    John Elway
    Tom Brady
    Michael Jordan
    Larry Bird
    LeBron James

You have to have a big heart in order to be a money player. The heart on the left is twice the size of the heart on the right. Secretariat had a heart twice the size of a normal horse.

Secretariat is considered the greatest horse of all time and I really doubt that a better horse ever comes around. He still holds the track record for all three of the Triple Crown Races and his Belmont victory of 31 lengths is considered one of the greatest races ever.

    Big Red is the GOAT!!!

Here are some money players that were great in the clutch, when the chips are down, postseason.
    Basketball Jordan, Russell
    Football Montana, Brady,
    Baseball Rivera, Bumgarner, Hershiser
    Hockey Gretzky, Orr, Brett Hull

I probably should put Lemieux up there over Hull, but I wanted to give Hull some credit for his 24 game winning playoff goals and 38 playoff power play goals~ making other teams pay for their mistakes.

Unless God Himself decides to build a better race horse, I doubt it too. The Belmont stakes was THE greatest horse race ever. What was as great as the race, was the call. He is running like a tremendous machine. Still gives me goose bumps whenever I hear it. Big Red is the GOAT. Like I've said many times, the greatest athlete to ever live wasn't even human.

I don't know the first thing about horse racing. I've obviously heard of Secretariat, and likely have seen clips of his wins at some point, just by accident. But I just went to YouTube and watched all 3 of the Triple Crown races. I now understand what all of the fuss is about.

Again, I don't know the first thing about it, but I'd assume that the other horses are trying at least a little, and that a horse shouldn't ever be able to win a race by that distance, even if the race was rigged. Ha!

Again, as someone that knows nothing about horse racing, seeing the acceleration at the beginning of the Preakness as Secretariat blows by everyone on the outside, to me (albeit an unknowing newbie), is probably just as magnificent an achievement.

So, one last time, as someone that knows absolutely nothing (well, now I know a little) about horse racing, color me impressed!

As great as he is, unless we're talking about the size of his contract, I don't believe Mike Trout will ever have to worry about being called a money player.

Secretariat was the super horse, 1970's. He was blessed with the mammouth heart as noted And used it to win by unchallenged margins.

This forum is married to the 4 major sports and golf, but look up Edwin Moses for an equal to Secretariats career.

With all due respect, anyone who is even thinking that there is an "equal" to Secretariat just hasn't grasped the concept of how great an athlete this specimen was.

Well sure I do. I was an avid horse racing fan by 1973 and an avid runner by 1975. I followed both careers as they happened.

Secretariat was spectacular in the triple crown but still suffered 4 losses in his career vs 17 wins.

The greatest athlete of the last century (sorry Perk) was Edwin Moses. In the mid 1970's he began a nearly ten year stretch of wins in the 400 hurdles that lasted nearly ten years. 122 consecutive wins and after a loss 9 years and 9 months after the streak began, he won another 10 races. In his career he set the world record 3 times.

Gee, Moses won olympic gold 8 years apart (76 and 84) USA skipped the 1980 games. And let me repeat as it is early and 99 ye year old brains take a while to activate. 122 consecutive wins for Moses and 132-1 over a ten year stretch...all at the world class level.

1970's at least you learned something today. It may be helpful in the future on another forum.

Woods was scary great on the greens.

Heard that he had another leg procedure in the last few days. That might be a record as well.

    It's only 5 on that knee, I'm sure that's not a record.

Been an avid watcher of sports for 60 years. Usually I've witnessed it all live on TV, or at the least recorded.

Secretariat was racing against the best in the world. He made them all look like $5,000 claimers.

No single event still gives me goose bumps like Secretariat widening in the stretch, an unparalleled display of greatness, that I will never see matched in my lifetime.

    Nothing compares.

    -not the miracle on ice
-not the small female US Olympic gymnast who nailed a perfect landing on a mangled ankle
-none of the Lakers, Dodgers, Kings championships that I watched since the 1960's
    -not Cassius Clay winning gold
-not Shoe's last ride. I was there and won a lot betting Eddie D instead. Think he paid $26 to win
-not Roger Bannister breaking the 4 minute mile. which is the pinnacle of track and field.

There is only one greatest moment in sports history:

"They're into the stretch, Secretariat has opened up a 22 lengths lead...".

Seabiscuit vs Secretariat, both in their prime. Who wins? I din't know anything about horse racing, but I've heard about Seabiscuit and Secretariat a lot. So who crosses the finish line first? The bisc or Secretariat?

Jack Nicklaus and many others in the stands that day were in tears watching the Belmont. Many across the world were either in tears, or in awe of what they witnessed on television. You, myself, and many others who watch the Belmont on youtube still get chills to this day watching it. It truly is the most dominant, impressive athletic event that man kind ever witnessed. There is no event even close to it. None.

I was in tears...I had $20 on Shecky Green.

    :/

Doing some studious math, along with a number of imperial calculations, I am fairly certain that Secretariat would beat Edwin Moses in a match race.
