2011 Rutherford B Hayes Presidential Dollar Coin Error?

I am new to forums and coin collecting so bear with me. I was searching a friend's coins and found what I believe is an error. It appears that the mint mark and a star are occupying the same space. Is this considered an error? Is there any value over $1? Thank you for your help:)

    Welcome to the forum @cashcraft.

    Based upon your pics it does appear to be an overlap of the MM and star. Are there any other variations around the rest of the edge?

    The premium for error coins are hard to value because it is a niche market and generally only error collectors have an interest.

    Recommend you check completed/sold auctions at GC, HA, or the Bay to get a general idea of what others have paid.

    Looks like a dragged or skipped impression of the edge lettering. I have something similar. The coin git stuck in the lettering machine and the lettering die dragged across the same area five a bit.

    There should probably be some other anomalies on the edge as well.

    I returned the coin to the owner but I will get more pics of the coin as soon as I can.
