Philippines Centennial Set, and a Salvage Opperation

I purchased this set through auction for about $35. I couldn't see the PVC damage on the obverse, which was created from the original packaging.

In hand PVC damage was minor; yet, needing some attention. I gave both coins an acetone dip, rinse, then another acetone dip. PVC green gunk removed, original plastic sleeve pitched, cardboard holder wiped down, coins put back in place, and a new non-pvc sleeve was put over set.

I believe 100,000 of these coins minted...not a rarity but fun to curate.

PVC discoloration evident on obverse.

Not much damage on reverse.

After acetone dip, rinse, and second dip.

Cleaned up portarait of Apolinario Mabini, aka Filipino bad *ss
