I’ve said it before and I will say it again. Some bidders don’t have any ceiling on the amount of money they can throw at things. Ofcourse there are other things that could be in play with this auction as well 🤷♂️
The only reason I can think of for the high price, is the fact that he's on fire in the minors. People anticipate great things from him in the majors. When a player is on fire, the prices can go up fast.
It was the superfractor 1/1 but still......... that's some expensive speculating.
I personally think the brightest baseball star in the hobby is Ronald Acuna, if I were buying baseball rookie cards
he would be my first, second, and third choices.
Same age as Luis Robert only Acuna in his second year is showing he's going to be a superstar.
Stockpile a bunch of rookies and wait.
Create demand by bidding up a card to a ridiculous amount.
add supply to the market at elevated prices.
rinse. repeat.

I think you just defined the buyers group, but substitute "rookies" for vintage cards.
Collecting PSA 9's from 1970-1977. Raw 9's from 72-77. Raw 10's from '78-'83. Collecting Unopened from '72-'83; mostly BBCE certified boxes/cases/racks. Prefer to buy in bulk.

Well, I'm officially shocked.
Doubt the auction receives payment

Topps NOW just had a sale on Mike Yaz.
The auto card will set you back somewhere between 80 bucks and hundreds.
This one IMO is pure speculation for sure.
