Topps 1965 Transfers Advertising insert

Scott ( quitcrab) posted about this on 54 and indication was that it was an advertising insert in 1965 Topps boxes with packs in which they were inserts ( 3 panel strips inserts), It was also mentioned that such advertising pieces may have been inserted in boxes for several years ( 62 to 69 ?) for other pack insert issues as promotional pieces to display with the box and packs. Anyone have any knowledge of these or other examples ? Sorry for small scan, all I have. Koufax,Mantle and Boyer are pictured

Boyer is pictured.....OF COURSE he is! :s

Now I need to be on the lookout for one for my Cardinals collection!

Is that yours, Al? Is it paper or card stock?

Not mine. I think Scott said he received it as a throw in on some order he received. I posted it because he was having trouble posting the scan. My impression is it was a folded paper box topper of sorts. Maybe intended to display with the box to promote pack purchases. Hopefully he will chime in at some point

There definitely sometimes were glossy advertising inserts in wax boxes. Presumably the intent was for the retailer to display in his store. Sometimes they were for pack inserts like this one, other times they were just for other Topps products. Here is a 1973 wacky packages cloth series box with an insert ad for Gold Rush bubble gum.

    Hiya Al

I'm guessing if inserted back then?

Those "inserts" look like they were intended for the store owner to push Topps products - a trade stimulator of sorts.

So, I would guess these are very rare since they're most like discarded at a very high rate?

    (not mine)

edit: note the last sentence - keep backup stock on hand - also in the 50s thru 70s - I'm guessing it would be very rare for someone to walk in and buy a full box?

Ironic that the 10-cent pack ad is in a 15-cent box! Our humble retailer might get a tad confused.

Now, let's fast forward a decade or so or should I say go "back to the future?"

In 1988 Topps came out with Dinosaurs Attack!.

And the store owner had a trade stimulator worth displaying IMO.

edit: I wrote a little thing on Dinosaus about 15 yrs ago: LINK

I actually have one of those dinosaur inserts Mike. Did I get a box from you ?

I think your 76 box insert is neat.

Trying to see if anyone has any that focus on insert issue, particularly from the 60s

    Hi Fellow Collectors

Thanks Al for posting the picture and starting the post for me. I am embarrassed to say I always fail when trying to post pictures. If anyone can email directions that would be much appreciated ( quitcrab@optonline.net)

I just finished up s nice 1965 set and was looking for a wrapper or a box at the National. I found a pretty nice box and inside the box was the advertisement for the transfers/ iron on.

I have never seen it before... neither has REA house or oddball dealer Steve Werley.
I would like to know if other “box-toppers” exist promoting other topps 1960s insert.
I collect Brooks Robinson so I am curious if he appears on any like the 67 pin up, 68 game cards or 63 peel offs etc...

Please post other examples if you have them. Could this be a one of a kind item or am I delusional ???? Thanks Scott
