My National purchases

Had another great time at the National. Wonderful dinner at Gibson's with Matt, Bobby, Tim and Craig on Thursday night. The booze was flowing, the meat was red & tasty, and we talked ball cards all night. Heaven. Lots of fun catching up with Mike and Kirk at the PSA luncheon and Leon's generosity (and his sponsors') was very much appreciated at the Net54 dinner Friday night.

And oh yeah, I bought some great cards for my collection and registry sets. Here they are...

First a couple of T206 HOFers:

Next a couple of '33 Goudey HOFers:

Next, a big HOFer RC that I've needed for years:

And finally, the card I went up to Chicago for...

The crease makes it affordable for me, there's a blotch below the "Y" in Mickey, and it's centered high. But the left-right centering is excellent, the borders are bright white and most importantly for me, the image is clean (no print), the color pops and the focus is spot-on. I think I'm going to enjoy this card for a long time.

Terrific haul there! And you aren't kidding about the focus on the Mantle -- beautiful. Congrats on that one.

Nice haul and most of that group I think should be part of any vintage collection !!

Do you have pics of the back of the Lloyd Waner??

  • jeffv96mastersjeffv96masters Posts: 607 ✭✭✭✭

While you wont show the back pics of the Waner many vintage experts think that Waner's had a "salon" visit.

The fibers are unnaturally bright whether thru chemical bleaching or being left in the sun they've undergone chemical changes. Those same paper fibers shouldn't look smooth either which indicates rolling or spooning has occurred.

There's much more to it than that = but lets just say its not a card that should be purchased by a vintage collector with any experience at all with Goudeys. Too many warning signs. Exactly how many hands that went thru where those warning signs were ignored or just not part of the knowledge base of the parties involved is a question that also needs answering.

    My opinIon as always-
    Jeff

Andy it was great catching up with you at Gibson's. I wish you would have brought the Mantle to dinner. You always have outstanding pickups at the National. This one might have been your best. Congrats buddy!!

The centering on your banks is outstanding. The Mick also has great eye appeal for a 2. Love that there's no print roller marks. I gotta get me on of those eventually. Thanks for sharing.
