Opinions Please!

I am working on some new scanning techniques after a 4 hour phone conversation with my loving sister (graphic artist). She also told me the pictures will appear different on the variety of monitors and settings' of the viewers. The color has been enhanced but is much closer to the true coins color than previous scanning techniques. The are nice colorful coins and the colors on the 27 change with a cartwheel effect.

The picture file size has been dramtically reduced and optimized for the web.

Let me know what you think and how it appears to you if they are inadequate. Constructive criticism is appreciated.image

For those desiring to know, the 40-s is a PCGS MS66FB and the 27 is a raw coin I picked up at a show.

Edited: The 40-s has prooflike surfaces and the reflection was a problem!

Not an expert on scanning coin or taking photo's, but I like your coins. Especially the 27-D. I think you will like the grade it gets, unless there are problems not showing on the scan.

    JMHO,

    Jon

Just realized the 27 is not a D. I guess I just wanted it to be a D real bad. Still a very nice coin.

    Tony:
The Colors Come through Just Fine on My monitor. The Lustre of the Coins Really Does Not Show with the Scanner as it does with a Camera. I think this is Pretty much so with All Scanned Coins I believe. Maybe more Comments will clear this Up for both of Us.

The 40S with all of the Color would be a Very Hard Coin for Me to get a Picture of showing All Colors as You have Done. Instead of One Scan I would Probably take 10 Pictures at Different angles to show what You have done with 1 Scan.image

Now for the BAD PART !! You Must Remember to turn the Reverse of the Dime so it Is Not UPSIDE DOWN !!!imageimage
Hope More Folks Respond. It is Always Nice to See Nice Coins.image

            Ken,

Nice coin. You have a good eye for color.

          2. Thanks for the opinions!

Jon there are two light scratches on the cheek coming down from the corner of her eye. The coin has quality surfaces and and a nice strike. A minor tick has negated the otherwise FSB. Coloring is to die for! Absolutely my favorite coin and it was not costly. I think it will come back a 63 because of the scratches on an other wise high grade coin with very special eye appeal.

            I wish it were a "d" too! BELIEVE ME!image

Ken thanks for the details but what Bad Part? You must be seeing things again! Lay off the hard stuff! image

The Nice Coin is that ICON You are Using when You Post. Every Time I See it I KICK MYSELF HARD for Selling that Coin.

                    1. The only edit I made to the post was before you read it. The comment about the proof like surfaces.

Now the picture on the server, hmmm.....image

                    2. It sure caught my eye! It looks like it must have been a beauty in person. Awsome toning can really top off an otherwise high grade coin.

Here is a comparison of a photo and a scan of the same coin, a '45-S Merc graded 66FB. As Ken stated, scans do not pick up luster very well (at least on my scanner), and the colors are often washed out. The problem I have is that my camera doesn't take close-ups as well as some models, and the horizontal band doesn't always appear to be split, but the luster and color turn out better than with a scan. That's why I prefer photos. Oh yeah, and I can take a lot of photos in less time than it takes to do the same number of scans.

                      2. Thanks for the nice images! It looks like I could do something to get more accurate scans myself. What exactly, I'm not sure. It also looks like a digital camera is in my future, my Birthday comes up this Fall, I'll have to give my wife the hint....

Both Scanner and Camera are Fine. I prefer the Camera.

Although I question the autheticity of the toning it is still pretty wild lookin!
