Zeke Elliott not on Cowboys plane to training camp in Los Angeles.

Coach expected him to be on plane. Zeke is under contract to follow team rules.
What am I missing here ?

What you are missing is that NFL players are whiney insolent punks that rely on dopey fans and indifferent taxpayers to hand them generational wealth.

Jerry Jones should just call him into his office and issue him a spanking. Problem solved.

his agent probably told him not to go, everyone is going to get their pay raise on that team except him

Zeke and I’m sure soon to follow will be Melvin Gordon. They want long term deals, it could end up being another Lev Bell situation.

I would rollerskate to LA if you pay me that kind of money. Heck, I'd walk. You give me millions, I'll freakin crawl to LA.

Agreed but I understand it’s a business and these teams really don’t care one bit about the players when it comes down to it

It's just an excuse to stay out of training camp.

Veteran running backs don't really need a training camp anyway. Probably does them more harm than good.

Likely he'd prefer to stay out even during all of the pre-season games, and then sign a new contract shortly before the regular season begins.

With or without Zeke, the Cowboys ain't going nowhere in this upcoming 2019 season.

Jerry Jones keeps his long streak intact of continuous non-Super Bowl seasons.

Thank you Jerry - We in Philadelphia love you my friend. May you own the Dallas Cowboys franchise forever. 🤣

Tell ya this much I seriously like the Cowboys to make a strong run and definitely win their division, that’s WITH Zeke. Without him it’s going to be tough, that’s a fact and every Cowboy fan and Player knows this.

  • stevekstevek Posts: 30,139 ✭✭✭✭✭

Oh the Cowboys might get into the playoffs. I'm not going to deny that possibility.

But regardless, at the end of the season, the Cowboys will do their usual swan dive head first into a swimming pool containing no water. 🤣

Zeke lost a lot of money and, afaik, the guaranteed status of his contract by being suspended. And he has proven to have poor judgement. So why hold out? The rb position is more devalued than ever after the SB.

Zeke, as I know from living here and watching every snap, is a VERY rare talent and producer. A lot of fun to watch. But doesn't seem to have the intensity he had in college, nor the burst, as his conditioning is not as good. But he is an every down back, elite pass blocker, runner, receiver. Hope he returns soon.

    Edited to add a word

As we all know, New York City newspapers have always been prone to exaggeration in their headlines to create public attention. Sometimes the stories are an exaggeration as well. However not this time.

My take on the story is that Jones basically told his star player that the Dallas Cowboys can win a Super Bowl without him if necessary. That is "harsh" in my view to say something like that to your star player.

They'll likely get together on a new contract sooner or later, Jones even stated that. But Jones opening salvo draws a line in the sand that he's not going to empty the Cowboys vault to sign him. If Elliott's new contract demands are unreasonable, then Jones basically said that he's not going to pay it.

Of course Jones could always change his mind, but in this case, I don't think he will. We shall see.

Well Philip Rivers said the RB position was “Deep” in regards to Melvin Gordon holding out, that is a little bit more “Harsh” coming from your QB, I don’t think Zeke cares one way or another about a comment from that idiot Jerry Jones, Ofcourse he is the one signing the checks..

It's the stinking agents who often cause these problems.

The bottom line is that running back is probably the least important position on a football team as far as needing a training camp or preseason. I'll be very surprised when all is said and done, if Elliott isn't in the Cowboys first game of the regular season, and performs well.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 31,744 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yea it’s the Agents but at the end of the day the Player can override anything and agree to a contract. And yes a RB like Zeke can afford to miss some time and it’s probably good for him however missing all of preseason is never good in my opinion

I hear ya and don't disagree.

However Elliott knows all the plays, etc, and will likely sign in time to learn any few new plays put in place for the Cowboys opening season game.

Of course being a Cowboys hater, I hope it doesn't end well, but I'll be very surprised if it doesn't all end up just fine.

Besides, it'll be more fun beating the Cowboys twice this season with their best players. :)

Always "interesting" that the players who get drafted and sign the fat contracts, but then stink up the joint, some never even playing in one regular season NFL game...never offer to give any of the money back.
