PSA Red/Blue Flip Question

Can someone explain to me the real difference between the PSA/DNA red and blue flips?

Blue - card is not authenticated (even the older ones that state a year/set name), only the auto
Red - if there's a card year/set name, card is authenticated also, if it says 'Trading Card' only it's the same as the old Blue flip

ETA: There are no new flips being issued in Blue, don't recall exactly when the change occurred, but within the past year or so.

So a blue flip could have an authentic auto on a reprint card? I'm looking at a 57 football card. Thanks.

Yes, there are (were?) many are legit cards in Blue flips, but the confusion and lack of card authentication started the labeling of everything as 'Trading Card'.
