First time posting here - Introducing myself
Hey everyone,
My first time here, though I think I see some familiar names from around. Nice to meet everyone.
I thought I would share a little about my collection. I have a few areas that I collect:
1) Integration-related items: I feel like one of the magical things about sports is that it can greatly impact people's lives in so many ways. One of the most obvious examples was the integration and the role that Jackie Robinson etc. played in reshaping the American consciousness. I've tried to collect items that capture elements of that story and try to focus on the complexities of the story. For example, the signed Junior College Yearbook captures the reality that Robinson played on integrated teams in college (and high-school), and yet it would take a decade more for him to be able to play in the Bigs. And even after he broke into the Majors, on his barnstorming tour in 1953 (where the team-signed Negro League ball is from), when they went to Binghampton, the law did not let a segregated team play, so they sat the white players and added a number of additional black players (including Willie Mays)

2) Lineup cards: MLB has started selling the large, dugout lineup cards, but for close to 100 years, the manager/umpire lineup card was
a basic, and generally forgotten part of the game. The manager filled them out and they established the official lineup for the game. Examples exist from as early as 1931 on formal lineup cards designed for the purpose, although there are images showing managers in the 20's showing the ump the lineup on paper. The others are a 1955 Dodgers lineup card and the lineup card from Tom Glavine's 1st MLB win.
5/21/1934 Philadelphia A's lineup card signed by Connie Mack, Jimmie Foxx hit a home run in the game

3) WWII-related baseball items: During WWII, a large percentage of the players were drafted. Most supported the troops by entertaining them by playing.
In 1945 the Navy played a best of 7 All-Star Series. This ball is the final pitch from the clinching game.
Looking forward to meeting people here, and always looking for items that fit the collection.

Welcome to the forum! Very cool collection!
Paging HighGradeLegends, paging HighGradeLegends, your welcoming skills are needed at the front desk.
Welcome - what's your first name?
The yearbook is incredible - I'm a fan of this kind of stuff.
Do you know the date of the Dodger SLU?
Here's the '55 WS press pins to add - it's rare anyone posts this kind of stuff.
edit: also the first Glavine win SLU is way out there! I'm a big fan - do have a GU bat - very very little "use."
Thanx!
Love Jackie and what he did. Congrats on a well deserved interest.
Collecting Unopened from '72-'83; mostly BBCE certified boxes/cases/racks.
Prefer to buy in bulk.
Awesome! Welcome!
Thank you! Nice to be here!
Thank you!
I appreciate that. I spent years collecting random stuff that I would lose interest in, but settled on these areas and really enjoy them.
Hey! My name is Jeff.
I love the yearbook. I've been able to pick up signed yearbooks from 1936 Muir High School. 1937 Pasadena Junior High (image shown) and 1938 Pasadena Junir High.
The Dodgers lineup is fom 9/9/55, the only date to match this exact lineup. I recently picked up a collection of 1950's lineup cards that included this one and a number of others including lineups from Aaron, Clemente and Banks rookie seasons.
And the Glavine is a personal favorite in the lineup card arena. I have a number of milestone games including Brett's 3000th hit and Frank Thomas' 500th home run, but I particularly like this one.
Those pins are super cool!
Appreciate the comment!
Thank you! It's a story that I think is super important to remember, and I think doing it through collectibles is just a fun approach.
Welcome Jeff!

Thanx for the response Jeff.
I have an SLU with Ted Williams - I did the same thing - thru process of elimination with a specific lineup - was able to pinpoint the game.
I resurrected our official first names club thread and added your name.

Awesome stuff! Welcome aboard!
Nice! Do you like gladiator movies?
Thanks!
Thanks! I appreciate that!
Thank you. Took years to build the collection and have had some of these for quite some time, but new to these boards, so fun to share.
Thanks! I've been lucky enough to pick up some really cool Integration-related items, some of which are shown here. Here's another highlight: Campanella's Minor league contract to play in Danville in 1946, his first season in MiLB. He never ended up playing there because they weren't ready to integrate, so they resigned him to play in Nashua.
I'd love to see the lineup card.
Thank you!
I appreciate it!
Thank you
Thanks. I feel the same way
Definitely looks like it
Thank you!
Not familiar with them, though I feel like I should be.
Holy _HIT Jeff. That the greatest Jackie Robinson collection on the face of the earth !!!
Meant vintage Dodgers collection.
Here ya go Jeff.
Sep 2, 1953 (Wed) @ Detroit
Sox won 5-2; WP: Parnell; Williams went 1/3 with 1 RBI, Piersall 2/3 and Kell 0/3
Thanks! I've been blessed to be able to pick up some really cool items around my collecting focuses. It's definitely fun when other people appreciate them, so thank you! Definitely one of my hopes coming here was to meet other people who appreciate these kinds of items, and maybe find some who also collect similar areas.
Mike,
That's beautiful! I have to ask if there's any chance you'd consider trading or selling it?
Not without a court order.
Haha, fair enough! It's a fantastic piece with a beautiful HOF'er auto.
Here's one of mine from that era. Dom DiMaggio had a homer in the game.
The SLU is part of a tribute to Ted that's a work in progress - have other stuff - just not sure what will make the final cut?
Glad there's background space.
The All-Star Popup book is hard to find in good condition and in tact.
The Hartland is really nice and with the original box and tag?
The Perez Steele is a PSA/DNA piece.
Hi, hello, how are ya? - welcome

Geez Ralph - was just thinking about you yesterday.
Don't think I've seen you post lately?
How ya doing? I know we're in the same "class" - give or take a few?
That's awesome! Here's Williams another way
I didn't comment on the Campy contract.
That's a work of art!
Thank you! In my mind the centerpiece of my collection. I was able to acquire both his Danville and Nashua contracts from 1946. I try to focus on the complexity of the Integration story, and those together do that in a powerful way in my opinion. The Dodgers as an organization are ready to sign Campy, but the specific Minor League Team (or the league depending on the story) are not ready to integrate, and so he has to go somewhere else.
I have a small start of a collection from the integration on the Reds, inspired by this book ...
All great looking items displayed here. Enjoyed the collections.
That's an awesome collecting focus! Jackie Robinson (deservedly) gets a ton of credit for the role he played in Integration, but there were other people that should not be forgotten, and the first on each MLB team are a great example.
Welcome to the boards!! Some nice items for sure!!
Thank you!
Thanks! Definitely feeling welcome!
