1969 Topps Tom Seaver

Is this card pretty much always tilted or diamond cut? Seems like one of those cards whose image was tilted on the sheet, so it looks tilted when properly cut. Anyone ever seen one that looks perfect?

Mile High or Memory Lane had a centered copy PSA-9 w/o tilt or diamond cut back in ~2011 that sold for $6500+.

  • I agree with the above poster.

It is hard to find these "perfect" and I don't try. This is my best copy below. Its a PSA 7.

I actively collect Kirby Puckett. I have collections of Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith, Roberto Clemente, Dwight Gooden, Tom Seaver, Errict Rhett and Evan Longoria.

Yes, it's very tough to find a '69 Seaver without tilt. I owned a PSA 8 several years ago that had nearly zero tilt. The problem was, after I purchased it I realized it had scribble indentations on the surface. I ended up selling it back to PSA and now have a tilted PSA 8 in my set.

@gemint Yes, it seems like you can choose between tilted or diamond cut. The card PWCC currently has up appears very nice at first, but it’s actually slightly diamond cut parallel to the tilt so it looks tilt free. Still pretty nice though.

  • Just curious for opinions, I buy the card not the grade:

Does anyone think the card PWCC has that is graded PSA 8 is clearly a grade different/better than mine which is graded PSA 7, or do the two look similar enough that they should be considered to be of the same grade?

Second Question - Regardless of your answer to the first one, would you pay 3x more for the PWCC one?

Need a better scan of your card. Lower left corner looks "funny".

In a nutshell, 7=little value, 8=OK value, 9=great value, 10 nearly worth the GNP of a small country.

  • The bottom left corner on the PWCC one looks a little "funny" to me. Also, notice the semi-circle mark to the right of his ear. Looks like its on the card, not the slab.

But forget the grade, they look virtually the same. This is why I "laugh" at some of this stuff - three times the price for a card that looks no different than another... all because of a sticker/slab?!?! Come on. Take the grade away and not one single person would pay 3x more for that one than the other.

I was curious to do a side-by-side comparison to see which I would prefer. The picture quality between the two cards is very different, so the colors can't be compared, and the corners are hard to see clearly in your picture. Here was the side-by-side I put together, and my preference based on these pictures would be the 8. I can't really make out your corners to decide on the grade difference. If your corners are as sharp as the 8, is it possible yours was graded before PSA added half-grades? Perhaps yours deserves a half-grade bump?
