    I am dangerous on Panama coins as I have just enough knowledge to get into trouble.

    I am aware that the US struck a lot of Panama's coins, but I also heard that there were some errors that were intentionally made with official dies later on. The coins I saw were JFK half dollars overstruck with Panama 50 cent (?) or half Balboa dies.

    Is there any chance this proof was also the result of similar shenanigans? I have no reason to think it was, but I am just looking to learn more about Panamanian errors before I buy something I shouldn't.

    Yes, good point. The poor little coin does not speak for itself. LOL.
    I have not seen this particular one, but there are some overstrikes of 1/2 Balboa on JFK 50c pieces that may be the most common as you have pointed out.
