Is there a cheaper way for grading??

I have many cards I would love to send off for grading. However 1 card sent to BGS is $50 if you include shipping. I cant afford this at this rate. Any other options for a poor guy like me? and I also want it to be a reputable grader. Any advice is welcome.

Please send it to Cheap Cards 'R" US and I can grade your cards for $3 per card. Auto grades are $.50 per card. If interested I can pm you my address. LOL!!!

Common card grading is a thing of the past except for a few select dealers. $8 per card for a PSA 8 card that is worth nothing, really doesn't inspire the investor/collector to jump up and down. I have always felt that prices should be scaled based on popularity. How many people are really sending in 1974 fake Bill Buckner cards or 1980 Manny Trillo cards?

Bulk $10 for superstars, post 1973, $12 1973 and back
Bulk $5 for commons and minor stars post 1973 and $6 for 1973 and back

Most sets only have about 50 cards or so that would be considered "higher end". The remaining 700 cards are just fillers.

Something along these lines. Would really help with the registry.

Unfortunately the prices are the prices.

Work hard and you will succeed!!

Depends on what you have. You can send bulk submissions with a declared value $99 and under to PSA for $8 with a minimum of 100 cards or I believe it is $10/card for 50-99 cards. You can always look at the Collector's Club quarterly specials as well to see if something you have falls under that. Of course, bulk submissions are going to take 4-5 months but I hear BGS is well over a year for their bulk and you pay them up front.

How could they be over a year for bulk? What kind of service is that?

The kind where you can have good service, fast service, or cheap service, but you can’t have all 3. This isn’t restricted to the graded card hobby either.

I understand the concept of quality grading taking time but a year seems a bit excessive.

They offer much faster services, just like PSA does. And with both companies you pay more for that. Customer’s choice.

Agree with the above. Just not worth grading vintage commons anymore if you are planning on re-selling. Remember when you could get $30 plus for PSA 8 late 50's early 60's commons? Now in most cases you might $10. Just not worth it now. Not true in all cases but is for most.

Just don't use anything else besides the big three: PSA, BGS, SGC. Heck you try to sell a card on Ebay graded by No Name Grading Inc you'd probably get laughed at :(

Grade what you want. Some may tell you it's not worth grading a card if you cant get your money back. If you're investing, sure. But if you are a player collector, that goes out the window because you are doing it for enjoyment (and perhaps for the PSA Registry).

Assuming you don't want to spend $800 at once (100 cards at $8ea), oftentimes you can find people to piggyback with on here to lower your cost at once.

I get my key 1970s cards (especially early 70s once I can get started on those) as "insurance" to ensure against ending up with trimmed/recolored or compromised cards....and let's get real here folks, who's gonna bother doing that on a mere PSA 7? :P

Ok good advice all and thank you. I am a collector not in it for resale. I actually only collect one player anymore and I look at grading as a way to preserve and protect cards that I deem valuable. My cards will get passed down to my son, not sold. Thanks again
