Whats your best hit from a...

Retail blaster box? I don't know why I keep buying these things. All I seem to end up with is crap game used jersey cards. I want to know if there is anything worth while in these money pits. Show or tell me the best you've got. Thanks.

I hit on a Heritage Trout Throwback two years ago from a Wal-Mart blaster......(reminds me I need to send that puppy in to get it graded!)

I also had this happen to me recently......

I am always a sucker for Chrome Blasters. My Wal-Mart put out a 2018 Chrome blaster a couple of weeks ago and I snatched it up. Why? Don't know as I have the set and have a few nice hits from other packs gone by. Bam, hit on a Max Fried auto #3 out of a possible 5 produced.

Finally, many years ago - probably 2013 or so, I hit on a Frank Robinson dual bat/auto card that was pretty sweet.

All in all, a terrible spend of money as buying hobby boxes is probably the way to go compared to blasters. Problem is, Wal-Mart is 5 minutes away while the hobby store is on the other side of town with nearly a 1-2 hour round trip commute.

Keep the faith - the hits are out there but it take the right blaster to produce it!

2018 Heritage Ian Happ Superfractor 1/1. Sold it for hundreds (forget exact price) and used the money to buy several PSA graded Yaz, including a 1974 Deckle PSA 7.

    #1 Gino Cappelletti master set
    #1 John Hannah master set

I've had some good luck with blasters over the years...a few highlights off the top of my head:
2008 Bowman Chrome Mike Stanton Ref auto
2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Mike Trout Auto
2010 Bowman Platinum Stephen Strasburg auto/jersey
2015 Topps Archives Kris Bryant #314 SSP RC - at the time was a HUGE pull

I've gotten a couple low end 1/1's too. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few decent pulls but those are some of the best. Like flcardtrader said, Walmart is 5 minutes from me and my lcs is not....plus I could hide the charges on my cc and it just showed up as "groceries" ;)

My most memorable is some guy I’d never heard of in a color I can only assume was rare. I feel your pain.

I ordered some 2018 Heritage blasters off of eBay soon after the product was released. Second blaster that I opened produced this, my best hit ever:

A week or so later, I was in Wal-Mart with an itch that still needed scratching, so bought a blaster there, too, and this is what I got (I was holding the camera at an angle at the time to avoid shadows and glare, but created the illusion of a trapezoid):

I guess there is some hope. I mainly buy football cards, but I haven't seen anything yet.

Can't remember the best over the years.

Most recent? 2019 Bowman JRod - latest Beckett has it at $800 (IMO totally inflated tho) - maybe full retail in a shop?

I have bought one of each series since about 2004 from Walmart. I keep one pack sealed for pack run collection (down to 1975) and I open the rest. I have never pulled anything of significance.

  • In 2002 I bought a case of Uppder Deck Golf Retail boxes (got a deal from a local warehouse that stocked stores). I flipped when I hit a Tiger Woods Silver Fairway Fabric Shirt / Auto. Then, in box 5...BOOM another Tiger Auto, exact same card. Besides that I would say a Sam Darnold Red, White & Blue Panini Prizm RC Auto (SSP /11).

Here is the Tiger card / This is not mine, but used the image to remind you guys what the card looked like. I sold one for $600, kept the other for awhile, but eventually tased it for a 1961 & 1966 Mantle & a 1957 Clemente.

I do feel like Topps and Panini have been trying to put more value into their retail products lately. When I first got back in the hobby I would pick up blasters at Target and pretty much never hit anything. This was 2012-2014. So I stopped buying retail products and bought hobby instead. Then, Prizm basketball prices went crazy and it made it worthwhile to attempt to buy retail again, so I started buying retail stuff again in 2017. I didn't hit much out of blasters, but did do well with the Cello/Value packs. I hit two big red pulsar Prizm RC's numbered /25 (Jayson Tatum and Kyle Kuzma). I don't remember exactly what I sold them for, but they both graded 10's and I think the Tatum went around $650 and the Kuzma $400. This year, I had these two hits from retail. The Luka Doncic is my best hit ever out of a blaster box. The Luciano Auto was from another Cello/Value Pack. Both just came back in a sub I received back from PSA yesterday.

My best to date is a 1/1 2019 Drew Lock Contenders Draft School Colors and a 2018 Panini Prizm Rookie Signatures Blue Laser autograph. Both are worth less an $200 so they aren't that great of hits. Although it pains me, I will keep trying.
