Auto Card Graded as “Trading Card”

I don’t typically deal with autographed cards.. Instead of stating the year and manufacturer the PSA label states “trading card”. PSA/DNA certified authentic auto.

What is the reasoning for trading card vs say stating 1989 Topps? In the registry the card does not match any set now since it has no link to an actual card.

Please educate me.

Gotta submit under dual grading. This is the old blue flip auto authentication only

  • Too many people submitted signed, counterfeit or reprint cards for auto authentication... But, PSA's autograph authenticators weren't card experts, so they slabbed them as '1952 Topps' or '1989 Topps', and PSA had to buy them back when people complained... So, they introduced dual grading, where the autos are examined by autograph experts and the card itself is examined by card graders.

Thanks for the replies.. here is the card. Lighthouse label, so the auto only authentication must still be going on?

Whoever submitted that card did so directly to PSA/DNA instead of using the dual service... PSA did away with the blue labels a few months ago..

If you want it to say 'Star', I think they offer a discounted submission fee since the auto is already done.
