Auctions that have extended bidding time. I get it if two or more bidders want to go toe to toe on an item so be it. If the extended bidding time is limited to each individual item I'm fine with that too but to make 500 + other lots have to wait for all the action to stop is ridiculous. After nearly 2 hrs of extended bidding with no action on a lot someone decided to try and reopen a lot I was high bidder on. That's just lame.
Ok. Off my chest. I feel better now. Carry on

You hate it as a bidder (and so do I)... But, the consignors prefer it that way... They want to maximize the final bid amount, and don't care if you get sniped at 4am if they can make an extra $10.

I mean I guess I get it but do they really make a premium? I personally never make a max bid. So do they really make more on bidders like me? If the other bidder wants to go toe to toe until one of us steps aside they will make more money then if I fall asleep and they make one minimum incremental bid more than I do.

Definitely... All the auction houses that use this method have a way to see the most recent bids in the auction... Stay up late one night and take a look at all the bids placed well after midnight on items that hadn't had a bid in hours... Those lots would have closed a long time ago, but are now getting bids... I'm doing this exact thing right now on an auction that'll end tonight.
As a bidder, it annoys the hell out of me too, but the auction houses have to cater to the consignors' needs or they'll see their consignments dwindle.

I tend to think they lose more than they gain. There are plenty of people that don't take part because they just do not like playing that game. If those people engaged the auction there would be more potential bidders.
I love buy it now. If you get to it first, it's over.
Auctions take so long. They drag on and on.
I remember during one auction, I took a 5 day trip to the beach, got back and it still had three days to go. Just on and on and on.
