What did you do or doing for father's day?

Tonya and I got up early and went to breakfast at Bob Evans. Even though we got there early, (before 8) we had to wait a few minutes. Then, we came home and watched Legends Of The Fall, what a great movie. I plan on torturing my teenage kids later when I make them put their smart phones down long enough to watch Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. Good times.

Slept in. Received several text messages, a few phone calls and some cards(non-trading variety). Eating way too much food later at the yearly Father's Day family gathering. I was told I will be receiving some cards of the trading card variety at a later date, but the LCS was apparently closed Friday and Saturday :) What a wife!!

Since I don't have any kids, father's day is a little depressing for me. I lost my father to lung cancer 2 years ago. I miss him. Dad thank you for everything you did for us. We love you and miss you.

Hanging out with the kiddos today. Just got back from a bike ride with them (ooff those were some big hills! ).. Played some catch. Wife is making some rhubarb dessert (my favorite)!

No Griffey cards this holiday (I don’t do well with getting any cards other than ones I hand select). I am sure others here have that same feeling.

Happy Father’s Day to all! Time to check the forums a little less than usual and spend some quality time with the family!

    Dave,

Very sorry to hear about your Fathers health. Glad to hear that your girls brought a spark to his eyes and and they got to spend time with him too. Don't be shy to share that with them. It's important that they know how important they are to him too. We never know how much time any of us have left but being able to spend any of it with those we love is important.

Dave, my brother and I had a very similar experience with my Dad. It was amazing to watch him rally, to see the gleam in his eyes, it's something I'll never stop carrying with me. I'm sorry for what you are going through, but am thankful for you that you are there.

My Father's Day has been great. Been with my wife and boys all day, church this morning, our favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch, my wife made my favorite dessert.

Today is a special Father’s Day for me.

Last Friday my dad, the last team doctor for the Brooklyn Dodgers and first team doctor for the LA Dodgers and now 87 years old, went to the hospital with double pneumonia. Saturday the problem was compounded by a major heart attack. By Saturday night he chose to be put on a ventilator

I got to nyc Sunday morning and have been here every day since starting around 7am and staying all day.

Yesterday he actually perked up a bit and started rebounding. With the help of my mother I was able to quickly schedule a Father’s Day surprise for him; flying in my two daughters (23 and 21) for the day to see him this morning.

When he saw them today his eyes lit up and it was clear that this was a great surprise. A happy, comforting time. They updated him on all of the happenings in their lives and then started recounting several family anecdotes that involved time with him. I had found a few old Father’s Day cards from the last 35 years and read them aloud so we could all enjoy years of love.

As the morning continued he started having some slippage. My girls left early into the slide to get back for the return flight. They will always remember him smiling this morning, comfortable and knowing that this visit meant so much to him.

It’s now about 6 hours since they left. The slippage has continued and things are not looking great. I’m sitting with him by myself now, watching/listening to the US Open and he is thankfully still comfortable and trying to recover enough to get off the ventilator.

I don’t know how things are going to turn out. I do have a pretty good indication of what might happen soon. The only thing I know for sure is that seeing the spark in his eyes this morning when my girls walked in will, for me, make this the best father’s day ever no matter what happens or when it happens.

To all I can only tell you that cherished memories with loved ones are precious and the opportunities to make more of them can be suddenly taken away without much warning. Don’t waste them.

    I’m glad that we didn’t.

I hope your Dad makes it through this. I'm so sorry to hear about his health problems. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I had my usual playing Rummy 500/800 with my grandma every Sunday (she lives just a short walk from me so why not? Also, my grandma's daughter (my aunt) often is there with us when I visit, she has four dogs of her own; she's the true animal person in the family)...but I remembered to wear my "BEST CAT DAD EVER" shirt my wife got me. She even got me a coffee mug that reads:

Thank you for being my Dad.
If some other man was my Dad...
    I'd pee in his shoes...
    Claw up his face...
    And go find you.

Went fishing with my wife. First time for her Walleye fishing. We were on the lake (Devils Lake N.D.) both Saturday and Sunday.

My dad has been gone for 27 years. My fondest memories of him are our fishing trips together. It was a great day, but a little sad too.

I appreciate you taking the time to share and for posting the pic of your dad. While I understand the feeling of sadness, just know one thing. The feelings of happiness and fond memories of your dad on your trips outweigh the bad. If they didn't, you wouldn't have been back there making more memories with your wife. Thanks again for posting.

My Dad was a funny guy, like a lot of men his age he wasn't a hugger/"I love you" kind of guy, but with fishing it was a little different. He really spent time and gave me fishing advice in the boat that he didn't/couldn't elsewhere about other things.

I have my fondest thoughts of him thinking about our fishing trips. Yes Sunday was a special happy/sad day.

His name was Joe and the grandson he never met is a Joe as well.
