I frequently purchase "junk era" boxes, myself. They make for fun, nostalgic rips. As long as you feel you got value for your entertainment dollar, that's all that matters, as they certainly aren't purchases that you make in the hopes of getting rich. If you do end up opening the boxes, I'm curious about the condition of the various Fleer Ultra (minus the 91 football) and the Stadium Club. Often, those cards from that era with the super glossy coating will have welded themselves together after all these years. Pulling the cards apart will end up with minor damage all around. Feel free to share any photos or stories from your early days about these particular cards.

91 Fleer Ultra football helped get me back into collecting. You can get PSA 10's galore out of that, solid quality Control.
I had fun back in the day with 92/93 Ultra basketball. Shaq, Penny, Sprewell, Horry etc.
Much like you, I had fun with all of that way back when. Feels like a lifetime ago :o

I'd have to go thru the list box by box to know if it was a good purchase or not. But, for about $170, that looks like a lot of fun ripping so as previously stated, that's all that matters. I like to pay as close to $5/box for my junk wax but it's not always possible and that is really a good mix. I've actually done very well pulling stars/rookies from junk to submit. Some of that stuff you get one 10 and you have 3-4x what you paid for the box plus grading fees for everything you send in. Just have to be selective. Anyhow, as I stated, for the amount you paid, it should be a lot of fun!

Thanks to everyone! I really bought them so my kids and I can have fun ripping them open at some point...they also make for great birthday presents for my nephews who are into any cards....I look forward to reporting on anything I find, but aside from a potential score insert pull, or a favre rookie, i dont think there is really anything in any of these years worth writing home about....

am i missing some potential pulls here?

I am afraid you overpaid at $10 per box. If you got them for your kids then it's a home run!! :)

yup...didnt get them to make money..got them for the fun

Nice. Those Stadium Club boxes were hotter than heck back when they came out -- Nolan Ryan Tux, Frank Thomas, David Justice, etc. I can still remember how excited my LCS owner was to show them to us kids. We were blow away.

Those Leaf boxes have some sweet Gold Rookies cards to chase in high grade. Bagwell and Mussina in 1991 and Pedro in 1992. That Jam Session box is definitely worth more than $10, that's for sure. Those '93 Ultra cards are beautiful base sets.

Nice pickup and have fun with your kids!

It might be kinda fun to collect the wax boxes/cartons as collectibles in of themselves. If they're that cheap you can make a "starter group" and then work your way up from there.

Don't forget the beautiful elegant 1992 Leaf Black Gold set...with its distinctive classy black/gold design. :) Be warned though it's an extremely limited edition! Only one card per foil pack, which amounts to only 1 for every 14 regular sets or 6.7%! it's worth it though, because the regular card design is kinda boring I think. :(

    Hiya momo

Opened a ton during that era with my son.

Was fun then and fun now.

Perhaps you'll get lucky and pull a 92UD auto card like the Bench/Morgan BB Heroes card!

    Best of luck buddy.

I have had the bricked card experience with some early 90s glossy cards. I read about all sorts of tricks to get them apart with the least amount of damage but it always resulted in surface damage to one or both cards. I even tried the freezer which was suggested in several threads but it didn't help. I have also opened glossy cards from the same era that were perfectly fine. I think it just depends on the type of environment they have been stored in. Good luck. I hope you have packs of individual cards and not bricks.

I think you slightly overpaid for the boxes if you are just calculating based on what you could get these boxes for on the open market. That said, it seems like you are just into this to have some fun for yourself and with your kids. If that is the case, then the $170 price tag is a bargain. Good luck and I hope it brings back some memories for you and creates some for your kids.

Love opening junk wax. I even get my 16 yo daughter to help. It is great time with her. Did you pay too much/too little? Doesn't matter if you like what you bought. I like to buy junk in person from LSC, it keeps them in business, I get instant fun. Hope you have fun opening.

There's no way you get all those boxes online for even close to that price with shipping. You have to pay a little extra in person for the benefit of not having to ship them. The price you paid seems perfectly fine to me.

As others mentioned, for time with the kids? It was a bargain.

I love the gold Leaf preview set. Super under rated due to condition. I may be the only(or dumbest) person in the world that has 2 complete sets. BTW, always looking for more!
