I would rank Tarkenton right up there with Dawson and better than Starr. He had a LOT less to work with than either player, especially Starr who had a GREAT team.

Fran played on two of the absolute worst teams in the 1960's, look at the guys he had to throw to, didn't have much for running backs to help him either. He got to 3 SBs and needed to win one or two to be regarded higher.

Tarkenton got to the Super Bowls in the 70’s, so if we’re talking best qb’s of the 60’s, it would have to be Starr. Not only did he win two SB’s, but he also won three NFL Championships.

Len Dawson and Bart Starr seem to be neck and neck. Unitas and Jurgensen could easily exchange places as well. 3 through 6 are all very close. Johnny's win/loss record gave him the nod even though he did not win any titles. He did have a better cast to surround himself with though. YA Tittle was the surprising one to me. The first half of the 60's he is easily the top QB. Had he played the whole decade he would be at the top of the list.

Bart had a GREAT team, he was great as well.

You could rank Bart, Len and Unitas above Fran, but NOT Jurgensen!

These three ALL played on VERY good teams with All-Pro receivers. I looked up the guys who played with Fran in the 1960's, I'll bet no one here could name one receiver he threw to. I'l also bet no one knows a running back!

    It's a TEAM game!

Its a shame Len Dawson sat on the bench for his first 4 or 5 years with Pittsburgh. Those dolts
didn't realize what they had. Dawson had an excellent college career at Purdue, it was inexplicable
that he sat for that long.
The Chiefs offense was good with Dawson, but they had a shut down defense. Many of the Chiefs defensive players
from the mid sixties to mid seventies ended up in the Hall of Fame. I used to know how many, kind of forgot
with Johnny Robinson in now. Probably better than the famous purple people eaters defense.
