Gordiani

harashaharasha Posts: 3,079 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have been collecting coins as long as I can remember, starting with the pennies my aunt used to set aside for me. Years later, at the ripe old age of 13 or so, I discovered that ancient coins could be affordable, even cheaper than the Lincoln cents I had been collecting. My first Roman was an antoninianus of Gordian III. I have had a particular fondness for his coins, ever since, picking them up every now and then. Here are two of my latest, one from Rome and the other from one of the Black Sea provinces.

Gordian is one of the cheapest BUT NICE ancient's to acquire when one starts out into ancients.

Much better then starting with uncleaned or Late Romans.

    Nice additions, especially the provincial.

The top one may have been tooled :(

Vendor described as "cleaning scratches." Tooled would have provided a better looking reverse. Coin was purchased as a relatively inexpensive type example.

Nice! The second one was issued in the city of Nicopolis ad Istrum, under the consular legate Sabinius Modestus between 241-244.
