I listed this on eBay and the auction is already over $200. Does anyone know if this is a special/rare variety of the 1800/1799?

Looks like an S-196 to me. R.1. Even the rarest 1800/1799 over-date is only R.4.

It could be an NC-2 which is R.7. In my haste, I didn't check the NCs before. Hard to tell from the photos. Good luck!

Lol. Just realized it's not an 1800/1799, it's an 1800/1798.
What would a NC-2 be worth?

Just looked up Heritage sales, it looks like a G Details would be worth $580, so I think I'm getting a decent price.

@Aotearoa, is there any way you can confirm this being a N-2? The winner of the auction never paid, so I still have the coin and would like to get it graded if it is the rare Newcomb.

Not a large cent specialist, but looks like the variety UGLY-1.....
At R.6+, someone will always find the inner beauty.
