Here is a young, 25 year old, 3rd year playing HOME RUN, EXIT VELO specialist who is best known for hitting 100 homers before he hit 100 singles and a putrid BA of around the Mendoza line his first 2 full seasons. As of this morning, Joey Gallo is 1st in the American League with an 1.113 OPS, drastically uplifted by a far greater patience at the plate (.426 OBP ~ 2nd in the AL behind M. Trout) drawing more walks and swinging at far fewer pitches out of his zone. This has yielded him thru the first 50 games or so a .293 BA with 15 Hr's and 35 Rbi's ..... and a 2.9 WAR which is 3rd in the AL behind Trout and Polanco. Joey Gallo was typically hitting 6th and 7th in the lineup in previous seasons for his reckless abandon at the plate however this season he is hitting 3rd, 4th or 5th..... With his new improved approach and confidence from his coaches he is putting up MVP-like numbers and his career trajectory has gone from Adam Dunn-like to more of a "sky's the limit" type forecast. Joey is going from don't want to see to possible MVP.
Here is Gallo's 2012 Bowman Chrome Auto go to XRC Gold Refractor /50..... There are very few high grade examples in any of his variations currently but by years end I'm guessing those numbers should dramatically increase if his staying power proves to be warranted.
