The date appears to be Repunched or possibly doubled?

Moved to us coin forum to get more views and a opinion on the date. Short and sweet post. If this is common I would love to know. Thank you.

I've never seen this one. Stars double also. Coin looks OK, but my gut reaction is possible "new" fake. Hope I'm wrong! Send it to our host. "5" not the correct style or it has a damaged (short) flag.

I partook with your feeling as well for a time. It is not a castes coin that’s for sure and with a different angle the short flag on the 5 is from damage just not pictured correctly! But you may still yet be right! Thank you for your input! Appreciate it as always

The coin is definitely not cast! If that's the case (damaged "5"), I'm going to vote: machine doubled genuine coin.

Looks like a beat up genuine LM-3 variety that is strike doubled.

My only objection to strike doubled being the case on this coin is that the loop of the 8 particularly the bottom and top show the strike to go from inside the 8 to out. They are rounded in shape and lifted rather then a uniform flat appearance. Common on strike doubling. Now I have not seen enough of these to really object to it being strike doubled. And if so that would be the lack of knowledge on these coins! Or having not seen enough being machine doubling or strike doubled if you will to give a accurate opinion. Thanks again!

With the date and the lower stars doubled in in the same direction, it seems like good evidence for strike/shelf doubling.
