Hello, I have been wonding about the new set registry competitive point system and what other collectors thoughts on it were. What are the pros and cons for new collectors and for experienced long time collectors? Let me know your thoughts.

I have been collecting coins for most of my life, but only recently in the last few years have I been really learning about coins. I started with wheat cents, buffalo nickels, bicentennial quarters, and state quarters from pocket change as a kid. I became a PCGS member only two years ago and I still consider myself an amateur collector, yet I have the #5 spot.

@CollectorBonEZ Welcome to the CU forums.
I have a few registry sets in the works.
Some of my observations:
The more popular sets are hard to break into the top spots.
The not so popular sets (world coins) may not be up-to-date with a coin’s series,
The point system is what it is.
Do I use it to gauge where I stand amongst fellow collectors? Yes, as a side note. It is not my main reason for using the registry.
Do I use it in deciding purchases? No.
My overall use for the registry is as an inventory tool.
Input, download, import, and voila my master Coin Inventory is updated. No special software/hardware needed.
