Need Help. Question on pricing a set of cards
Hi,
I've had this set of cards for a few years. I'm ready to let them go but I honestly have no idea how to even begin to price it.
I was given a set of cards from the 2009 NBA rookie photo shoot that went on at the MSG training center. This is after the draft and before the season started. We worked for MSG and this was given to me by the facility manager. Each player was issued 100 cards from the shoot plus a signed set from all the other rookies. Came in a plastic case with the players name on it. Some of the rookies include Blake Griffen, Steph Curry, and James Harden among others.
I also have correspondence with Panini confirming this was a player only issued set. So my question is: How do I price this? Its a unique set with some pretty desirable players and its limited to 60 sets.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can post photos if needed. I just have to dig them out of my phone.

That's a really tough question. I think at this point we're going to have to ask for scans.
These are quick pics before I left for work this morning.
I think you got some really valuable cards on your hands. I'm no expert but, wow! I mean a 2009 autographed Steph Curry alone is worth a lot. I would hold onto those for a while and think this through. Do a little research on ebay and see what steph curry rookie autos are going for. Also check out the other players rookie autos on ebay. If those are real autographs, then you've got some really valuable stuff.
When I say real autographs, I mean if they are not facsimile autographs.
Very impressive. You should definitely store these in individual protected sleeves (Card Saver II) and not in that single card holder case as the corners on several of these have already begun to show wear. Good luck with your Research, looking forward to seeing how this unfolds.

Yes, I would definately agree with NJ80sBBC. These cards have to be better protected.
Double dragon: Definitely legit autographs. You can tell they were done with sharpie.
Nj80sBBC: Agreed. I haven’t taken them out much but the movement in the case definitely has done something to the edges. I’ll have to pick something up today.
The condition of some of the cards are a little rough, so that will be a major factor. I'm not sure how much you will get for them due to condition. In particular the Steph Curry card. Buyers will look at the conditions very carefully.
I agree with what everyone has said. It's a unique piece and hard to gauge a value. It has so many levels of appeal. It's super limited, autographed, and player issued. I feel the set should be sold as a whole. If it were mine, I'd list it with great pics, the provenance/verification from panini and put a large buy it now with a best offer and field offers. Or, do an auction with a high reserve .
Start bidding high, say $1k or BIN/BO for $2k and see what interest you get. I'm not up on BkB sales, but would expect at least $300-500, but for a limited player-only issue, it's possible someone would go much higher. You might get a higher total trying to sell the big 3 (Curry, Griffin, Harden) individually and the rest as a lot.
I would guess in this case, scarcity will trump condition.
I have to agree with LarkinCollector. These cards demand a high value. They are really rare, and they are rookie cards. The autographs also play a major role.
Thank you for all the responses. Would it be worth it, at this point, to:
1- Consider submitting to PSA/DNA for grading and verification of signatures?
2- Consigning to one of the sports memorabilia auction houses and let it run its course?
I’m assuming the exposure in a legit auction would probably bring the best price.
Thanks again.
Tim
That's a good question. Since I don't have much experience with PSA/DNA or auction houses, I can't really say. Just keep an eye on this thread and someone might be able to give an opinion to that question better than I can.
Personally, provided you have the verification/confirmation from panini that would be enough imo. You would spend a small fortune getting them verified by PSA, and it would seem kind of redundant at that point. And I don't know if you would see the added profit on the back end .
I know some folks have used the major sports auction houses and done well in the past. I think that would be a judgement call.
I would send an email to all the auction houses and ask their opinion. I think those could be worth tens of thousands.
If it hasn't been pointed out already these are the 2009-10 Panini Next Day Signatures. I did a quick ebay search but didn't see the set. Here are two James Harden's for sale but I can't say if they were overpriced or not.

No, it hasn't been pointed out yet. Man, the Hardens are both going for over $1,000! I didn't know that. Thanks for the link.
There's also a blake griffin going for $999
I didn't notice this until after i posted the link but one of those Harden's is #/d to 10.

The owner of this set wanted to know whether he should have it PSA/DNA encapsulated, and maybe consign it to an auction house, I told him that I don't have any experience with either, so I wasn't sure.
Erikthredd- while these are the same pictures as the next day cards, there’s a stamp or embossing on those that mine doesn’t have.
But thank you for posting the link. There are a lot of James Harden next day cards, I can’t find any Steph Curry In ebays history.
The listing for the Harden #/d to 10 says that stamp/embossing is on the #/10 versions only. Going by your pics this appears the same as yours: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-Panini-Next-Day-Signatures-JHA-James-Harden-Oklahoma-City-Thunder-Auto-Card/233028202153?hash=item3641902ea9:m:mZkspi2X7tsez-cAYhVfYRg
I forgot about this other site to search for previous sales, here's what came up for the Steph Curry:

Erikthredd: wow. Thank you for that second set of links. Who knew? I’m thinking that maybe getting the big three graded might be a good idea.
On December 15,2016 a five rc/au lot of Curry,Griffin,Harden,Jennings and Teague sold for $3350. Wow......nice set
Wow is right! I just want to say you should have them graded and encapsulated. These are one of a kind cards. They deserve the royal treatment.
So i think, ultimately, that getting the top three rookies graded and encapsulated is probably a good idea. Then I can move forward with hopefully selling the set as a whole.
I looked on PSAs pop report. Shows just one of each, Curry and Harden, in the pop report. Nothing for Griffen, and nothing for the set as a whole.
Thanks for all the advice. I went to get card holders at my local store, but got there too late and they were closed. That’s another priority. Getting the cards protected properly.
I just want to say that I enjoyed seeing the set, and hope everything goes great with the cards. Stories like this are what makes the hobby so much fun.
