HA CSNS auction (newp)

Well, this is my 15th new coin purchase of the year. It went for more than I had hoped, but less than I had feared. It is an upgrade for me, and I paid much more for my non-newp than it took to win this lot.

(Yes, I intend to crack out this coin once I get it.)

HA lot description (and its images):

Early Anglo-Saxon Period. Sceat ND (700-715) AU50 NGC, Series W, S-787, N-148. 1.17gm. Full-length figure with head turned right holding long cross pommée either side / cross crosslet on saltire. An ultra-sharp example of this early Saxon rarity, boldly and centrally struck on a flan of good metal producing excellent detail, handsomely toned a deep charcoal in the recesses. Only three others of this early type have been offered within the last 20 years, and thus the opportunity to own it should not be missed by serious collectors of Anglo-Saxon coinage.

Really? Cool. I think the non-newp is a very nice coin too. If money weren't an issue (but sadly it is for me), I'd be proud to own both. When I get the newp, I'll compare both and do some soul searching. Then, I'll decide on what to do next (keep which or both, etc.).

Thanks. What do you want to know? I'm sure @Nap can answer all your questions (he's more knowledgable than I am) that I cannot answer.

Considering how dramatically different the two varieties are, I think you shoud keep both.

I am undecided. I have learned not to dismiss advice from Mr. Eureka, but in this case I am unsure because of the money involved. Both coins have the same SCBC, North and Abramson catalog numbers. Perhaps not the same die, but hard to tell since the lesser coin is poorly struck and off-center.

Here is both for a better comparison:

Those are for sure different dies. Look at the figure (hair, beak, elbows, hands, number / placement of dots)

I concur, but a better question is why are you here and not enjoying the Caribbean and more time with your lovely family?!?
