The coins that I’ve seen from the collection are in outstanding condition and the breadth of the collection was extensive
"I am ashamed for forgetting Gerry Forsythe. He is by far the King in all the series he has MULTIPLE collections in. I'd guesstimate at one point his coin collection was worth over $50,000,000.00! His drive is to be #1 in any series he is collecting."
Yup rich dudes who could afford the best........... So what?
Seems too many equate best collector with monetary value.
Just sayin'
Best, SH
Is it possible to distinguish the greatest collectors from the greatest collections? Certainly the latter will be dominated by expensive ones, but it is possible to form an outstanding collection without a 7-9 figure budget. @Coppercolor comes to mind with his Coyote Ugly Lincolns. Almost all of them are the finest (or close to it) available if you are judging by eye appeal and not highest graded red cent. Not only that, but it was a dedicated pursuit of love over 20+ years and he made (slabbed) many of the coins himself.

The Sunnywood Collection of Morgan’s will always be my favorite

He will be displaying his incredible Liberty Nickel set -with the 5C 1913 PCGS PR66 CAC at the PCGS table at the ANA Show. We are proud to say PCGS made special holders for him that I believe will be available to the public after ANA. I helped him get his sets regraded and pedigreed last month. I did not like the other substandard sets with + creeping near him on the stupid registry. His coins have been off the market 20+ years when you could buy really nice coins! And yes, he is still buying today.
Glad that you and @tradedollarnut were able to place the pop one 1917 S obverse 67 Walker in the forsythe set. That’s where it truly belongs.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍
No one will ever beat Mr Forsythe in the nickel area-he owns the 5 top pop sets!
He collects Mercs and Walkers too. Both #1 sets.
BTW, my partner Bruce is absolutely one of the greatest collectors ever. Look what he did with Bust, Seated, and Trade Dollars! He knows EVERYTHING to KNOW about those areas. He also has owned MANY classic rarities. His passion and knowledge blows away Delloy and 95% of all collectors-and I stand by that statement

Forsythe and Morelan are great, but why the need to mention Dell Loy? He must really be on your mind.
Also, the focus on the top pop / #1 sets is interesting given other recent posts. Seems like being #1 is still really important.

This is a good commentary. All I know is the best numismatists/collectors are not always those that have infinite resources but instead do their research in their series and expand knowledge. Steve Crain is one example of likely 1000s that don't have to spend 7 figures to be the best. We see many world class numismatists on these boards that don't come close in budgetary terms to those that some would call great because they have lotso money. Just sayin'.

what series does Forsythe still have collections in?

For me also Garrett and Eliasberg. Probably Garrett #1 and Eliasberg #2.
