Is it just me or was the Cheeks/ Johnson a really good deal or am I missing something. I’d have thought the Cheeks/Johnson would be at least the $120 higher not the other way around. Am I missing something?

Welcome to the world of card collecting, also known as " The Cardboard Twilight Zone".
Personally, I agree with you. But neither are Magic rookies and I think that's the wild card. Makes the whole thing less predictable and more of a novelty.

Yeah I agree with you too, even though PSA designates the Magic in the Cheeks/Magic/Boone a rookie I like to call it a first year card and not his rookie.

Personally, I would think this was a better deal.

Eh, that Bird/Dr. J/Magic card is a beater. All 3 guys are still young and in good health. They'll be signing for quite a while. That Cheeks RC/Magic All-Star/Boone PSA 10 card is a nice card to have even without the Magic sig. Two HOFers in their rookie year and I think Boone has a decent chance of getting in in the future (although his rookie card is '71).
Honestly, I think the confusion over the entire 1980 set is what holds many of the cards back. People think there's 6 or 7 rookies of Bird and Magic in the set, there aren't. Scoring Leaders, Rebound Leaders, All-Star cards don't count as a rookie card. They never have in any other set yet in this '80 set the Birds and Magics are always referred to as their "rookies." They both have two 3-panel cards that contain their rookie card -- the famous Bird/Dr. J/Magic one and then they each appear on a different 3-panel card. That's it. Those are their rookie cards. Just like Cheeks' rookie card only appears on two 3-panel cards, one being the aforementioned PSA 10 above.
