Well worn, but identifiable example of the scarce coinage honoring the deified Nigrinian, thought to be the son of Roman Emperor Carinus (r. 283 - 285 AD). Nigrinian's birth year is unknown, but given the unusually youthful portrait on his coinage, and the lack of any lifetime issues, it is thought he died in infancy, before he could share in the propaganda of the living members of the imperial family.
This coin: Rome Mint, 284 AD. Radiate head of Nigrinian, right. Eagle facing with wings spread, and head left. Value and officina mark in exergue. Sear 12411. Rough Fine.
