PCGS holder size change, when did XL holders arrive?

I was organizing some notes and saw that several PCGS notes have extra tall holders and stick out amongst the group. I saw a few on ebay with these XL tall holders and am stumped.

Are these a mistake or has anyone else seen the same?

I have noticed the same thing from time to time. Small size currency in a taller and/or wider sleeve. I notice this because I have a certain slot that they go to and it is the "Just Right" size. Then along comes one that's a different size. I have noticed that it may have something to do with inconsistencies years back, that due to the number on it (on the back). Compare that number, you may find it to be rather old(er) than the normal size holders.

No, they've been around for a while -- people would opt for them. I think, at one point, they were trying a "one size fits all" type thing. I was actually going to reholder all of mine before PCGS went down.

I've only started noticing them in the past year+
