2019 Topps GYPSY QUEEN thread. Talk and trade

Aspie_RoccoAspie_Rocco Posts: 3,259 ✭✭✭✭✭

I am curious how many folks collect the GQ series?
Some of the cards are appealing, others meh...
What do you think?

I was at Target and asked my youngest daughter to pick a box of cards. She chose 2019 Gypsy and I let her open two packs. Second pack she pulled an Autographed Royals Keller, and to make it one better it is the Specail brown Bazooka reverse and numbered 16/25

I also got a Green Parallel Trout card and 3 Phillies!

Some special cards to look for are the Tarot of the Diamond set,

And logo swaps

Green parallel cards

And blank name plates

Can't find too much to fault when the autographs look nice and are on card. Checklist is super weak, but still.

I have been picking up the various Mattingly variations.
SP, Blank Nameplate, Logo Swap, Bazooka back. Those are the ones I know of so far.
I'm only missing the Bazooka back now.

I am liking this series more and more. The Bazooka reverse seem pretty rare and appear less often than autographs.
Also in watching a few breaks and opening a few packs, the Orioles seem to be low print, with none to very few being pulled.
I tried my first break participation and got 2 black and white numbered cards, - Phillies auto and Reds auto, and some other minor inserts.
The 301-320 short prints seem more rare than the 401-500 SP of heritage.

The low amount of Orioles is due to the fact that they do not have many players worthy of cards this year. :'(
Definitely not touching Orioles case breaks on this product this year....

That makes sense, I had an orioles set in a case break yesterday. Probably pulled two cards. Neither was the auto

Cards with variations on the back really have never done well with collectors. Topps still churns them out.

I like the design, picked up a hobby box over the weekend. Think this was my best pull. Wish it was a better name. Pretty sure it is hitting Ebay tonight, unless someone here has some interest?

Oh yeah, and a couple serial #'d cards. Soto gold refractor is going to be slabbed.

Hahaha, first ever 1/1 that I've pulled. Might be worth about 1/3rd or 1/2 the cost of the box? I did pull a Baker Mayfield rookie autographs lime green lazer prizm refractor redemption from a box of Panini football from Walmart a couple weeks ago. Oh, and the Robles blue auto last year. Out of all my years of ripping, those were the best things I've pulled. I somehow felt the ripping Gods owe me.

Nice pull on the 1/1 @PROMETHIUS88

I find the numbered cards appealing for some reason.

The autograph I pulled has a specail different reverse side, it is a Bazooka back, but the same khaki stained color as normal cards.

Poking around on eBay I was surprised to find the autos go for around $5-$10 unless it is a special player. I burned up the rest of my ebucks and nabbed 8 autographed cards for $39 and change!
One is a logo swap, one a Green parallel, and one logo swap numbered to 99. O bought all the Phillies autos, of course, some varieties of the same auto cards, and a few from other teams.
    Here are some

    2019 gypsy queen

I noticed while organizing that there seems to be two color variations on the Normal base cards. Some prints have a more grey-ish overall tone, and others have a more orange/yellow/khaki color to the borders (these brighter boarder cards have more vibrant colors and bright look to photo areas) this happens on the cards with a red borderline most often (the green line cards mostly brighter more yellow.

This has been a somewhat frustrating set to piece together! I almost regret starting it, except for the autographed cards.
I have bought about 6 blasters, 3 different team case breaks, and over 700 random cards in bulk lots and STILL I need
    Five 7, 15, 23, 33, 35, 36, 40, 45 61, 73, 84, 92, 93, 95, 112, 113, 122, 124, 134, 147, 152, 165, 180, 190, 199, 206, 210, 219, 222, 242, 245, 264, 274, 290, 291, 292, 298, 300.

I am a little bitter that the above list has been persistently difficult to find for a 300 card set. My impression now is that they are lower print numbers than any card numbers not mentioned. I have 8-10 of some players!
Why does Dylan Bundy get 2 different base cards?
I do not like posting negative things like this but it feels like an extremely poor financial choice to chase this set after this year’s heritage set.

Some highlights for me have been

I bought my first blaster today. I bought a few packs at the LCS earlier this week. I did buy a small lot of the SP because it contained a Donnie and was a good deal. I figured while I was at it I should get all the Donnie's. Almost done with the run.
