The ANS publishes back issues of their ANS magazine going from Spring of 2002 to Winter of 2014. I was looking through them and they seem very rich and really interesting to read.

Any one know why they stop with the Winter 2014 issue or whether they will be making more recent issues available online?

@Zoins Agree. The ANS magazine has a wealth of information.

Newer back issues are available from the link below.

“Back-issues of ANS Magazine are available for reading/downloading as Open Access CC-BY, three years after their initial publication.”

Thanks! I like the publication approach because it allows the organization to charge for recent issues but then also disseminates the knowledge to a wider audience later.

I also like how they have much of the ANS collection online with photos and the articles in the magazine often reference the ANS collection.

The organization is definitely starting to grow on me.

@Zoins I am a member of both the ANA and ANS. My main, indeed ONLY, benefit from either is their magazine. I think the ANA's magazine, The Numismatist, is hit or miss, with a lot of articles that I think are poor or even wretched. The ANS's magazine is always good. I find virtually every article they publish interesting even if it's about something I know very little about and care even less about. Plus the former Colonial News Letter (CNL), now Journal of Early American Numismatics (JEAN), which is published by the ANS and is available for extra cost, is equally fascinating. Indeed, I just finished reading a 3-year backlog of CNLs and JEANs and found almost every article to be fun and interesting.

If you live in New York (I don't) there are also a lot of benefits from ANS membership. But, even if you do not, I believe membership is still a good deal.
