Trivia Question: How many regular issue coins 1934-date has pcgs yet to grade in 66+ or higher?

AllCoinsRuleAllCoinsRule Posts: 2,447 ✭✭✭✭

Just regular issue business strike coins, cent through dollar. For the purposes here we'll count the three 1972 Ike types as a single coin (although I know that's debatable). Besides that, it's still kind of a trick question. I'll post the answer tonight or tomorrow morning.

Bonus question: What was the last regular issue business strike coin 1934-date to be graded in ms66?

Do you mean ALREADY graded? There is no way to know how many are YET to grade.

I don't understand your question at all. PCGS has certified (counting duplicates) more than 500 1934-dated Lincolns alone in MS66+ RD or finer. So that counts as one issue? Is that what you're after? Perhaps you could, um, be a little clearer?

    Kind regards,

    George

The question was about 1934 to date (i.e. last 75 years). Not 1934-dated.

I would guess there are quite a few Jeffs that don’t exist in 66+ or better so I’ll guess 20 total. I assume we are not counting strike designations.

I can't think of many candidates after 1964 though.

People would be surprised to see the weak strikes on some dates of MS-67 where this is the highest grade.

I will guess ten having collected most coins from this era, As the OP stated 'regardless of strike' eliminates a lot of coins. Off hand I will say perhaps a couple of Jeffs and Franklins have yet to grade above 66+ along with possibly a clad high mintage Washington that wasn't saved. I do know some of those are tough above ms65. My curiosity is piqued, and I am going to check out CoinFacts. Cool thread, AllCoinsRule..

I have had a handful of coins I bought raw (one cracked out and sent in raw) grade 66+, though some were dated before 1934. My first MS67 was a 13-D type 1 buff.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

For you @DIMEMAN, what is the newest regular issue dime that has no coins graded higher than ms66?

What dime since or including 1934 has the lowest pop in ms67 (regardless of bands)?

Without looking I would say there isn't a date since 1934 without a 66+. And again I would have to look to see which date has the lowest pop in 67.

    2012-P has 0 in 67
    2017-P&D 0 in 67
    2014-D & 2015-D 1 in 67
    2010-P 2 in 67
    2009-D 3 in 67 but 1 in 69
    1970 has 4 in67
    1973 has 6 in 67
    1935-D, 1969, and 1972 have 10 in 67

You said regardless of bands so I looked at only MS. Also you said 34 to date so I started there. There are a lot of high grade Mercs before 34 with and w/o bands. And you ask for lowest pop in 67 so I listed those again MS not FB.
