Knock offs and spin offs are two different things. Current generation of talent shows are knock offs.
All entries are welcome though!
+1
A spin off is taking a piece from one show and making a whole new show from that one piece: like “Rhoda” is a spin off from the “Mary Tyler Show”, or “Maude” is a spin off from “All in the Family.”
A knock off is a “copy cat” of an original show, like “The Outer Limits” was a knock off of “The Twilight Zone”, or “The Flintstones” was a knock off of “The Honeymooners” or “Fridays” a knock off of “Live From New York”. Or every other late night talk show is a knock off the “Tonight Show”.
But “all entries are welcome”! 😃
But back to the topic:
Best knock off TV show:
“The Monkees” from The Beatles
I'll give Gomer Pyle a nod as both a spin off (Andy Griffith) as well as a knock off (Sgt Bilko.) Al Melvin was a character actor in both.
John Lennon once said about the Monkees (paraphrase), "They are the Marx Brothers of rock music." Actually, that's a pretty good analogy.
Micky Dolenz of the Monkees was asked about what Lennon said, and Dolenz took it as a compliment. But I'm not so sure that Lennon really meant it as a compliment.
Bravo's "Real Housewives of New Jersey" when everyone here knows "Real Housewives of Beverley Hills" is so much better and the true original.
Lennon was the Karl Marx Brother.

Knockoff of Three's Company

according to the "knockoff" explanation every Western series except the first one ever made is a knockoff. I'm not so sure I follow that line of thinking.
Bonanza was the best.
The Beverly Hillbillies was a "knock-off" of The Real McCoys.
