Morgan Experts- Is this 1893-CC Genuine?

I sold this coin in January 2018 on eBay and the buyer emailed me last night and wants a refund because he believes the coin is counterfeit. It does not show in the PCGS database, and he also said "The toning on the reverse hides many of the obvious markers including the trace metals left inside the d and o letters. There is metal flow across several of the In God we trust lettering, the letters themselves are pitted and not sharp as a genuine dollar should be. " I am willing to make it right and refund his money if it is indeed a counterfeit, but I'm not convinced yet. I don't have any reference materials handy, but the coin looks real at first glance.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
-Paul

Based on a quick glance, nothing about the coin makes me suspicious regarding its authenticity.

It looks ok to me, but admittedly, I'd be spooked as a buyer if this key date did not exist in the PCGS cert database.

Have you contacted PCGS about the data base?

Have the coin regraded/reholdered and keep the sale?

Can we see the whole slab?
The coin looks ok from what I am seeing,

Looks genuine to me, as mentioned a photo of the slab could help. It may also help PCGS to find out why it is not in the database.

Did I read that right? The buyer wants a refund a year after the sale. That would be a red flag for me.

That would be a red flag for me, as well. However, at the same time, from the buyer's point of view, I can understand his concern about the coin not showing up in the PCGS data base.

@MFeld " I can understand his concern about the coin not showing up in the PCGS data base."

Agree I have to do it this way because of the bug.

Bob, don't get too excited - it's possible that the grade on the label was photo shopped. >:)

is there a time frame where you can ask for a refund & after that your out of luck on ebay. just wondering

  • @commoncents05 If you call or email customer service they can investigate why the cert is not showing in our system.

Here is the reading on the barcode: 72220061034262193. The last 8 digets match the cert number, but there is an extra zero before the grade of 61.

Why is this Mark guy never wrong? Haven't caught him in any answer I'd even attempt to disagree with even for argument's sakes.

I have had a cert not show up on the PSA side of CU. When I contacted customer service, the particular cert # I was inquiring about had been reported as stolen. Nothing can be done with the card once that flag is on it unless one were to crack it out and re-submit it.
