Are all mint marks located the same on same coins?
Can the placement of a mint mark vary if struck at the same mint w/same metal composition and same date?! I tried to find the answer in past questions and though many threads are similar, nothing answered the issue of all other markings being identical aside from location of mint mark. Thanks and I apologize if I did indeed miss a previous answer.

On older coins yes. The mint marks were hand punched on to the dies so the position can vary. That is also why you sometimes see repunched mint marks or over mintmarks.

I really appreciate your time and thank you all for the answers. Its a 1982 penny, nothing else seemed different except the placement of the mint mark. ( S)Welcome to the forums @Clueless61469!
That’s cool. You got a proof cent.

A good question, actually.
I think there are a few (one on a nickel from the 1970s) where the placement of the MM on the individual die was so ridiculous that some people pay a premium for them. Mostly, though, extreme variations are just curiosities.
Starting somewhere in the 1980s, the MMs were no longer punched into individual dies, but rather were added at an earlier stage in he die making process, so that all dies for that coin/year/mint will have the same placement.

It can be more than just slightly.
Look at the 1894-S Barber Quarter for a good example
Mint Mark above the gap between QUARTER and DOLLAR
Mint Mark above the D of DOLLAR

Agree But I was trying to keep it simple. We get enough posts with people looking in her ear.
Great question.
