Grading Territorials: Reference Materials?

Does anyone know of any reference materials where I can learn more about grading territorials?? Looking at the grades many territorial coins receive I am really confused. In many cases I can't tell an MS61 from an XF40.

I would think that the difficulty that you're experiencing is due to 'strike', more than anything else.
More or less, you have to grade by luster and wear, as in any other series. Determining the high-points shouldn't be that difficult.
Heritage would be a great resource in comparisons.
Try PCGS CoinFacts for photos in different grades.
Luster, luster. These coins come very beat up too.
Although I’m not sure the grading companies even get these right, consistently.
I heard from a prominent gold dealer once that he couldn’t find two people who correctly know how to grade Territorials and they don’t work for TPG’s.
How about CAC?

Is JA an expert in territorial gold? If grading these pieces can even be tough for the experts then....
Since I cannot post anything nice...
