What ever it comes back as either AU or BU it is going to come back as cleaned.
AU details.

High XF-45
AU55, cleaned.
AU cleaned.
Details - Cleaned.
Ouch, well I hope not, but worst condition slabbed book is it 550
Umm well how about this one which was from a reputable dealer
Please do yourself a favor, buy coins that are slabbed.
Agree, you wont be happy if you send them in.

Hope no water in the sink.

I would say the gold is XF Details (cleaned) and the half dime AU Details (cleaned). Until you develop an eye for grading and gain some knowledge, I would stick with PCGS or NGC straight-graded coins. The PCGS grading and counterfeit detection book would be a worthwhile purchase.
Welcome to the forums.
Cheers

Im going out on a limb and saying the gold is a fake. Im no expert, but the denticles and date look off to me.
The $5 looks AU and I'm not convinced that it will necessarily be deemed to have been cleaned. The half dime looks like an AU details, cleaned piece to me.

The $5 is a tough date. If it's real I'd say AU Details Cleaned. I'm not happy with the schmutz above STATES on the reverse.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
Gold - XF 45 details, cleaned.
Half Dime - AU details, cleaned, excessive marks for the grade on the obverse.
I hope they were cheap. When buying always ask yourself "Why is this coin still raw when we are 33 years into the slabbed era?"
I payed 360 for the gold, but in a beat condition it was goin for 550,, and the dime I played 120 for,, they're already out for grading on free vouchers so it wont suck as bad if they come back bad
Gold AU details cleaned, the dime, the same.

I also have an 1868 3 cent out but now I'm afraid to show it hahaha
Show it. All is good. This forum gives honest and sometimes painful opinions but they are good opinions with a lot of grey matter behind them.
Hard to hazard a grade through a flip and in the dark. You almost had it out of the shadows!
No immediate signs of cleaning jump out.
Yea I realized the pics were bad of the half eagle but those were quick ones I snapped before I sent it out and ok well here is the 3 cent then
Good luck on your submissions !!!
The 3CN looks AU details, cleaned.

Even with that black discoloration between the numerals and the lettering??
That is an indication of cleaning because tight recessed areas are hardest to clean.
Well, the only encouragement that I can muster is that coins often don't look very good when photographed through a flip or Mylar 2x2. Hopefully they're actually better than the photos would suggest.
You can consider grading vouchers as "free" if you like, but I always paid quite a bit before they sent mine.
All of this feedback is potentially painful, but if you learn from it, it's all good. Plenty of us have been there & done that.
What do you mean paid alot before they sent them?? I had to prepay the return shipping when I made the order online
Prepay who for shipping? Something new?
I have never pre-paid but for PCGS you have to pay for CC membership.
Collectors Club Gold membership is $149/year with 4 grading vouchers. Collectors Club Platinum membership is $249/year with 8 grading vouchers.
Therefore they're either $37 each or $31 each.
The current PCGS price for Standard grading is $35/coin.
Either way you have shipping both ways and the $10 handling fee.
There is no such thing as a free voucher you pay dearly for them. Everything but the gold piece could have been graded economy for $22.00 with a silver membership
@SilverEagle420
An option, use CCOF which takes care of everything except the mailing to our Host.
The prices you paid would get you a slabbed coin, although you would probably work at it a bit. Probably at auction. I've been a collector for many years but the only raw numismatic material I buy are medals, some foreign, some colonial, occasional modern US, and tokens, I learned the hard way, as you appear to be doing, but there were no slabs as an option while I was learning.
If you start an online submission with pcgs you can prepay return shipping, and I looked at silver but it said it would work out to 45 a coin with holder, that's why I said whatever and did the gold
That's the same fallacy as assuming everything didn't CAC. At the local B&M, MOST estates still come in mostly raw.
Depending on the size of your pcgs collection, you can get free vouchers but you pay shipping and handling.

Yea for 4 coins to sign up as silver is 69 and around 22-35 per grade,, so it was waaaaay cheaper to go gold
You need to find a new dealer. All 3 of those coins appear to be cleaned and/or over-graded.
Gold piece was at a pawn shop and they wanted gold weight price, the other 2 are from the same guy,,and yea depending on how they actually come back I will be finding a new one
Ohh and the prices on the cardboard flaps are def not what I played for em
Well, I'm not about to pile on... welcome to the Forum!
At least one other forum member made the recommendation of getting the ANA grading book and the counterfeit detection book as well. These two tomes are a great place to start. Then, go to a bunch of coin shows or find a B&M shop where the proprietor will let you look at a lot of coins. I found the only way to get good at grading is to look at literally hundreds, if not thousands, of coins.
Edited to add... LOOK at coins, not necessarily buy coins!
All the best...

Yes I went to ome in Idaho last weekend and plan on doing more,, but gold season and golf season are comin up fast Haha
UPDATE: this coin actually came back with original surfaces but was unfortunately an Au details for filed rims still sold for 750 bucks in less than a minute
Hey that's pretty good!
Collector, occasional seller
The 1834 dime and the 1865 3 cent did come back as cleaned so you guys were right one those!
If you sent it to PCGS they will not denote "original surfaces" on the holder and, in fact, getting a coin to straight grade (problem-free grade) is no guarantee at all that the coin has original surfaces. Also, when a coin has multiple issues, PCGS does not always list all the issues. Therefore, they may very well have agreed that it was also cleaned, but didn't list it on the holder.
