"Seller offered a special discount" email

bronco2078bronco2078 Posts: 10,244 ✭✭✭✭✭

Got a different sort of email today about something on my watch list.

Because you showed interest in this item, seller sent you this private offer.

A few other interested buyers also received this offer – it won’t last long. Hurry and take advantage right away!

I have a button to click ,that says respond now . I click it and I get a page that says , Other buyers watching this item may have received this offer. The first to accept, gets the deal.

I can't make a counter offer , I have never messaged the seller so how do they even know who I am?

    Might be suspicious?

I got one of these emails a couple of weeks ago, the only thing I could think of was that the coin was on my watchlist. I'm guessing it's an option some sellers have to "send a special offer" to people watching an item

I get these often now. For items I have on my watch list or viewed several times.

Theres a little blurb that says " Your information will not be shared with the seller until you accept and pay for the item"

Does the seller even know it was sent to me?

The seller initiates the offer. After doing some quick research I found this from a eBay community page:

"We are currently running a pilot where seller can initiate Best Offers to buyers. This feature will allow sellers to send offers to the 10 most recent watchers on their items. To qualify for this feature, the listing must: Already have Best Offer, Be a single quantity fixed price listing, Have been listed on eBay for 10 days or more, Have at least one watcher.

Only one offer is allowed per watcher (for up to 10 watchers) and the offers will expire after the standard 48-hour duration. The message a buyer receives will clearly indicate that others have also received the same offer and the first to accept will get it. Once one buyer has accepted, the others will be notified that the seller's offer is no longer available. Buyer's who do not wish to receive these kinds of offers can opt out by changing their communication preferences.

After the offer has been accepted, the seller will be notified and receive the buyer's username. From here the transaction will proceed as any other.

While at this time the feature is only available to those using My eBay > Selling, we may expand this to those with Seller Hub in the future. Below we have included a screenshot of what this feature looks like for those who meet the listed criteria:"

Ebay needs to use its resources to send out more and better bonus bucks offers.

No. As a seller one has the opportunity to send offers to folks watching the listings.

eBay knows who is watching, and they send to watchers the offer.

Yeah....all you have to do is look at an item and you might get a push for it! Believe me it doesn't have to be in your watch list.
