How does MLB formulate the 162 game schedule for each team?

Is there a committee that discusses this, or a computer program that comes up with the home - vs away games? I get that they do try to schedule road trips like Arizona, Oakland/LAA/LAD, Seattle in sequence of some sort. But how do they play some teams one year and not the next?

How is it that the Yankees and Red Sox (I get the rivalry) get to play in London June 29th and 30th...eating up 6 days for 2 games. Then the Sox are on the road to TOR and DET

Then the All Star game the next week.

I find this Mom and Pop scheduling team to be a joke. I'm pretty sure it is done by computer.
