Generally, die polishing lines will be raised on the coin since the polishing occurs on the die and is incuse.

If the lines on the nickel are raised then die polishing is a very good possibility.

The 1964 D nickels had a high mintage of almot 2-billion coins which resulted in using dies that probably should have been retired. To extend the life of the dies they were “polished” to remove defects, in doing so, polish lines can and did show up on many 1964 D nickels.

Be on the lookout for the 1964 D with “E PLURIDUS UNUM”. Heavy die polishing caused the “B” to become a “D”. Enjoy the hunt.

Cool. I will keep this one for a great example. I like how the lines even come over the date. Neat Whirlybird like a bit. 😎 I will keep a look out on the variety nickel also. Have not found one yet🧐🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️💫
