Philly sounds better to me, especially with $330 mil.

    TOTAL INSANITY.

Not sure why Bryce took this deal over the original Washington deal? 10 for 300 seems more appealing than 13 for 330. It seems to me that he could have made more than 30 mil over the last 3 years of the deal had he gone to free agency. I also heard there are no opt outs. I like machados deal better.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

    It's only money. :)

Phillies are used to wasting money. Just look at the Ryan Howard contract.

radio says his agent wanted the 330 million because it is the biggest deal ever signed in dollar terms ,.

    Bragging rights ?

Ryan Howard's contract was justified when he signed it. He had just come off unbelievable years on his original deal and helped to get them into back to back world series. I know we don't see this much in sports, but the organization rewarded him for what he helped the team accomplish. He was never the same player after he hurt his heel in the Cardinals playoff series. And he was a class act; never dodged questions, faced the press and never really complained.

If you follow Boras, you know he was after the largest contract ever; that's what he's about. The 13 years is a little odd but that's probably what it took to get to that magic number. Reading between the lines, it didn't appear that either the Dodgers or Giants were willing to beat the $325 mil by Stanton. Bragging rights you say...absolutely!

Exactly, and the Ryan Howard bashers such as Grote know this.

Grote, a die hard Mets fan, has nothing better to do since his Mets in this upcoming season are basically relegated to finishing in 4th place in the NL East.

Perhaps when Grote attends some Mets games this upcoming season, they will have some cool giveaways to make going to the games worthwhile. That way when Grote is driving home from the game, he can at least be grateful that since the Mets got trounced 15-0, at least he got an official Mets seat cushion out of it. 🤣

Apparently the Giants were willing to go to $330 or thereabouts but would have had to go much higher because of taxes in California.

Also, the deal is apparently heavily based on deferred money and Harper is going to be getting paid for something 30 years.

That's ok. We want Trout, and Philly won't be able to afford him now when he becomes a free agent. :)

The Nats won nothing with Harper in the lineup for 7 seasons and the same will ring true for the Phils.

I remember SteveK saying the same things about what a great signing Howard was and we all know how that deal turned out. As Yogi once said, "it's deja vu all over again!"

Yea, yea, yea...when the Phillies contract ends with Bryce Harper, your Mets will still be paying off Bobby Bonilla for three more years. 🤣

    Pasted:
Bonilla and his agent offered the Mets a deal: Bonilla would defer payment for a decade, and the Mets would pay him an annual paycheck of $1.19 million starting in 2011 and ending in 2035, adding up to a total payout of $29.8 million.

Yes, but what's lost in that tidbit is the money the Mets saved by defering that buyout was used to sign Mike Hampton who was instrumental in leading the Mets to the NL pennant in 2000. And when Hampton left after that season to go to Colorado, the compensatory pick the Mets recveived in exchange for his departure was used to draft David Wright, one of the most popular players in team franchise history.

It's also not nearly as uncommon for clubs to defer salary for players under contract as the Bonilla deal would lead most to believe. For example:

The Braves pay Bruce Sutter $1.12 million per year through 2021. He last played for the team in 1988.

The Reds pay Ken Griffey Jr. $3.59 million per year from 2009 through 2024

The Orioles are paying Chris Davis, who was arguably given the worst contract in baseball history, $3.5 million annually from 2023 through 2032 and $1.4 million annually from 2033 through 2037

The Nationals are on the hook to pay Stephen Strasburg $10 million per year from 2024 through 2030

The Cardinals are paying Matt Holliday $1.4 million every year from 2020 through 2029.

I'm sure Bryce Harper will added to such a list, as well, before the dust settles, lol.

I gotta great idea to motivate Bryce Harper to excel with the Phillies. Since Jonathan Papelbon and Bryce Harper once mixed it up with each other a few seasons back cause JP didn't think Harper ran out a hit, and since Papelbon once pitched for the Phils, why not have the Phillies sign Papelbon and get him out of retirement?

"I don't always do 70 in a 30 mph zone with no insurance, but when I do, my SUV goes off the road and flips end-over-end." -DT

You know hes a hard worker , he is going the extra mile there, most SUV's barrel roll , those endo's are extra credit .

Everyone always warned me about rolls in my early bronco but I never understood what they meant , then for a while I drove a fancy one with that newfangled power steering and rolled twice in 6 months . I tried it but I will stick with the manual steering , luddite that I am

Pro tip its always best with an suv to just square up and hit it dead on than to try dodging at the last second. If you have a roof (you sissy!) wear your seat belt ,but if the roof is off then don't wear it , it makes for a smoother , cleaner ejection

To the Mets fans, all I have to say is look up at the ceiling. Then, get used to that feeling cuz you'll be looking up at the Phillies in the standings for quite some time!

never mind all this what happened to Thomas ?

You can't mention a guy in the title like that without a saying anything in the post its a rule

I was hoping the Pats would find a way to pick that guy up for years .

So if you are driving a car and get in a wreck , you assaulted the passengers if they get injured? Learn something new everyday I guess

IF he didn't have insurance and was driving recklessly, I would say he should be charged with assault.

Do you need insurance in colorado?

Assuming that since he was charged with no proof of insurance you do.

states are weird with that. Here in Mass you have to have it , you need it before you can register. If it gets cancelled your plates are cancelled that day. You would get pulled over as soon as someone ran your plate.

NH you don't need it at all unless you borrowed to buy the car then the lien holder forces you to buy it.

I know other state where you have to have it but its not tied to your registration , you can drive forever as long as you don't get ticketed

AZ doesn't tie it to registration, but the fine is incredibly high if you get pulled over. Think I was looking at $1400 when I got pulled over and didn't have the insurance card on me (but had coverage) That was 20+ years ago, no idea what it's up to now.

My guess is by around the end of May, the stands at Citi Field during a game will resemble a ghost town. Nothing but tumbleweeds blowing thru the stands. 🤣

Steve, the will be full when the Phillies are playing there!

Yea, but many Phillies fans in the stands going up there to see our team win. Could be almost like a home game for the Phils. 🤣

The concession stands at Citi Field when the Phillies come to Queens, may as well just put out Phillies caps, jerseys, pennants, etc, because those items will actually sell. 🤣

Boras and Harpers biggest contract will be temporary Boras may have helped Harper but he sure didn't help Mike Moustakas. Turn down a $17 million qualifying offer only to sign for $5 mil later. How many smaller fish get to make up for Harper
